Sir? I'd like you to take the helm, please. I need this man to tear all my clothes off.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Let me echo Nilly (in a very secular way) and join in a heartfelt thank you. You really helped this past year, and seeing so many of you in person - especially those who hosted, fed, and took me to see their cities - felt like a miracle this year. As in, I still can't 100% believe this happened, and I'm so happy that it happened, and that you are the wonderful bunch of people that you are. Thank you, and I'm sorry I can't be here more and as much as I'd like to be.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Is it weird that I have a favorite holiday of a religion I don’t practice because I get to hear from Nilly , or is that pretty normal around here?

Our wings are not tired.

Hugs to Shir and Nilly! Thinking of you both every day.

Hey Trudy! I still expect to see you when there is a 999 post.

Punishingly Intricate

Sending love to Shir (who I am so lucky to have spent a little time with this year) and Nilly (who has not offended me this year or any and whose kind and warm presence I always feel even when she’s not present here).

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It was such a joy to have you here, Shir. And we have pictures so it did really happen.

Once again, Nilly, I can assure you that you were altogether inoffensive.

I'm wrapping you and yours up in a shield of Buffista love.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It looks like Florida has endured the onslaught of Milton fairly well.

Only 7 deaths so far, and five of those from a retirement community in a trailer park hit by a tornado closer to the Atlantic side.

Lots of damage and loss of power but it doesn't look as devastating as Helene was, or (going back) Hurricane Andrew.

One advantage to Milton happening so close to Helene is that people were way more aware that they shouldn’t fuck around and that they needed to GTFO.

Several stories about people who were displaced in NC moving to be with family in Florida and having to flee a second hurricane.
