Apparently the tax code was ambiguous and kinda FUBAR in '24 and '25 so the IRS issued a bunch of waivers on this issue. So I should be able to take care of it without penalty.
Note to everyone: If you inherit an IRA from someone else you have to empty it in 10 years! And at a certain point you need to start taking Required Minimum Distributions whether you're ready or not.
I am pretty sure you can roll it over to another IRA and that takes care of it. That's what I did with DH's , like, immediately (it was done for me, I'm pretty sure, automagically) and then I didn't even look at it for longer than 10 years and heard something about this and panicked but when I checked on it it was apparently fine.
