To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice, with pie.

Our wings are not tired.

Exciting, Dana. Richmond has grown up a lot in recent years. I lived there in the 70s for a couple years. The cemetery overlooking the James is really lovely.

Sorry, about the shrouded fireworks, David. Ours were quite nice for a small town. Posted a couple videos on the FB.

(oops, just noticed I hadn't clicked post)

eta: Yes, forced pregnancy is exactly what it is.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I've seen the term "forced birth" around.

Also good.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I've seen the term "forced birth" around.

Usually describing abortion foes as "forced birth extremists" - which I think works.

I've been trying to avoid paying too close attention to the election out of respect for my emotional well being. But between Biden's debate performance, the SCOTUS immunity decision and details of Project 2025's agenda, I'm feeling a dystopia coming on.

Last night we watched the PBS broadcast of fireworks on the Mall, and I just felt this utter sense of foreboding that those were the last July 4th fireworks this country would have as a democracy. I'm trying really hard to not be pessimistic, but the Republicans have always played dirty and the Democrats refuse to. Playing dirty is literally the only way the Democrats can win against this unhinged amoral mass of fascists.

True on all counts. I am trying hard not to go into full panic mode.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

If the Democratic party had paid even a tiny bit of attention to either PR or succession planning in the past 40 years, SCOTUS and the electoral map would both look very different. I am not optimistic.

I dropped Dylan off at the airport at fuck-too-early o'clock this morning and he has landed safely in LA, where he will be studying music production at UCLA for a week. On Sunday Aeryn heads off for two weeks of sleepaway camp, giving us almost a full child-free week! We have nothing planned except an 80s dance party boat cruise on Friday (this is an annual party sponsored by a local indie radio station).

Woo-hoo, enjoy, Jess!

An 80s dance party boat cruise sounds so fun!

Always Anti-fascist!

Yeah, kind of. Calli, I don't know which is more irritating--the recurring digestive issues or the manufactured crisis around the water meters.
