I’ve been missing in action due to starting my new job on the exact same day as my sister went in for a knee replacement. The job seems good so far and my sister came through the surgery fine and is home. Her husband is doing a lot of the home care, but he cannot cook, so that’s where I step in. My nephew also got a job last week after 18 months unemployed and is already out of town at a conference, so I’m also helping my niece in law with kid herding. This time last week I had no commitments to speak of, and now I’m booked from 8–8.
Which is why I’m offering belated happy birthdays to the buffistae I missed, and {{{Karl}}}.
Happy (belated) Birthday, Steph!
Huh. It’s a wfh day for me today but I decided to go work at the library because it’s all pleasant there and as I’m driving over my podcast is interrupted by an EMERGENCY ALERT for an earthquake (?!) telling me to “Drop, Cover. Hold on”. Get to the library and check my earthquake apps which don’t show anything yet. An earthquake tracker I follow on Bluesky does show a 5+ earthquake up by Ukiah but that’s a long way from here. Weird.
And upon checking my apps, there are user contributed reports of a quake in Napa at the same time, maybe people feeling the actual quake but thinking it was closer to them because big? Hope everyone’s ok up there
Trying to be productive today. Getting my house in order and gathering stuff to transport north in one area. Cleaning out the fridge, clearing furniture from the balcony, laundry, and a bunch more on the list. Not going until Tuesday now, but still a very long To Do.
Really worried about the TPS ruling. Almost all our basketball kids are Haitian. Almost all of our healthcare workers are Haitian. This is just horrific for so many people. I am filled with absolute hatred for the current powers that be. They are vile humans.
Well, this is too quiet

Happy Thursday! The fog is general over San Francisco as is typical for summer.
I have a packed weekend schedule.
Tonight my friend Jes's drag troupe does its monthly show at the bookstore, and my new friend Rachael (my Pilates instructor) will be coming.
Tomorrow night my friend Rowan's 30th birthday is at Alembic (with Jes's drag troupe performing).
Then on Sunday I get to enforce socialization with my kids for a second consecutive weekend, and once again get to pick the movie.
I would like a sparkly star for bravery, please: Mr. Loomycakes is out of town at a Magic: the Gathering event, and last night I had to deal with a spider by myself. (I beat it to death with a shoe as it kept skittering toward me.)
Oh, wow, Atropa! A whole sash full of badges and stars! Very sparkly!
