I really find it hard to imagine going into an office again.
Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration

Oh, god, me too. Even before covid, and when I was living in the same place as my office, I only had to go in one morning a week. How did I ever cope with being stuck there every day?
I'm in the office two days a week and I am gradually sliding into WFH being less worky as Work Brain doesn't want to engage. OTOH it's an office wide schedule, so in-office days tend to get filled up with meetings (even though they are still mostly Zoom meetings as a lot of people are remote), so there is a certain amount of Can't Actually Do Work that happens then. Quite a lot of Why Shouldn't I Slack Off pretty much whenever possible, really.
My entire work life was on Planet Commute, so I never had to manifest the work from home brain.
JZ adapted to it pretty well, but she had the incentive of I Facilitate The Saving of Babies to keep her focused.
Fogged in hard in San Francisco and I must get to the post office and mail a check.
You'd think I could just wave my hands helplessly in the air and say, "Too much fog. Can't be done!" but the fog is not so dense that its impenetrable. Just feels unpleasantly chilly.
I'm saying that it would be a mild inconvenience, and yet it vexes me.
I am so over this woman at our client who is shocked, shocked, that telling us we needed to hold for a month…might also affect the timelines we’d previously given her (where we expected things to get started a few weeks ago). She’s like “why didn’t anyone TELL ME” and I’m like “lady, why wouldn’t you think it? And I’m telling you right now!!”
Also, TMI but I am grateful for $29 virtual visit from Amazon health that only involved filling out questions and typing things in and by 4pm they will be delivering me antibiotics (because ow I have a UTI stupid new relationship things )
I am afraid of Amazon Health but I'm glad it worked out for you. Also, can I say yay new relationship? I can keep my squee to myself if that's weird (and I know it's weird that you're whitefont is giving me Northern Exposure flashbacks but I will let that flag fly, I think)
I got to go to Barbetta!
I rolled up without a reservation, asked nicely, and was politely told "no."
Then next to me was a party of three where only two of them could make it. They seemed pleasant and I asked if they could join them and they said "yes"! When we got to the table I said "now that you're not standing there in front of the hostess and have had a chance to consider the matter, is it really alright? Because if its not I appreciate the fact that I really put you on the spot there." They said they thought it would be fun and it was. I bought a round of drinks.
They're sisters (late 20s/early 30s), the elder moved from Texas a long time a go and the younger at some point more recently needed a job while her sister needed a roommate and decided to give NYC a crack. We had lots of fun.
The food was very nice and I had a minestrone soup they'd been serving since 1906.
Yeah I am not a fan in general but it was cheaper/easier than a virtual visit for my actual doctor (who I’m seeing next week for a routine, but figure is also a good backup in case this doesn’t fix it).
And yes, tbd on what’s exactly going on but for the moment, enjoying each other…I’m not head over heels but going with it while I’m having fun. Some yellow flags that warrant future investigating to see if they are red, but also lots of green flags. TBD. Entertaining anecdote: I knew she and her ex broke up last summer. What I found out the other day is that her ex left her for their hairdresser…her female ex left her for their straight male hairdresser (!!?). Wild combo you wouldn’t expect.
Trudy, that sounds delightful!
