I ordered this as a birthday present for my daughter (in August, she's going to turn 20!)
Holy shit.
Well, there IS the LOTR set in New Zealand ....
Sword for Gud's daughter is cool.

I knew someone in college whose father had at some point gained some status in his field. Since the parents would be entertaining others in the field, often from other countries, they did a major redecorating sweep of the public areas of the house. In pride of place was a pair of lamps that had silk shades, hand painted with Chinese characters. His mother loved them ... until they had a Chinese guest who looked at the lamps and cracked up. He translated the characters. They said "arrogant rich". New shades went on the shopping list that evening.

I understood what Gud did with React! You should all be very impressed.
OK, I'm impressed, both with Gud for doing it and you for understanding!
I am also impressed!
But you know I had a crazy half-hour when the fire drill was the relaxing part. Everything just went bananas all at once. It will be fine now. And it was nice to spend a new minutes outside.
Back in the '70s I was working in the same building that housed an office of a big chemical company. They had received a few bomb threats, which involved evacuating everyone from the building. Then we noticed that they seemed to be getting a lot of bomb threats ... usually mid-day on pleasant, sunny days. We figured that SOMEONE wanted a nice mid-day break ... not something I think you could get away with now.
Last year we had what we thought was a fire drill in January, when it was 10 degrees outside and 15 mph winds. We were all pissed, then we found out something in the server room was smoking.
Note: it's a really nice day here in Greater Camberville where Jesse works.
Timelies all!
My parents still live in the house I grew up in, at least in the warm weather. The houses my parents grew up in have been sold long ago.(My mother's childhood house was turned into condos, I think.)
