There was an explosion in Durham, NC. Some construction work ran into a gas pipe. They were able to evacuate most of the area before the explosion, but one or two people died. A bunch of localistas checked in on Facebook.
My new office is a few blocks from where the explosion happened. We heard/felt it and saw the smoke, but we were no where near danger. However, the local power company has to do some stuff and said they might have to shut down electricity to our part of the grid, so everyone was sent home. I'm working in my living now.
I saw the
eye bees
link because someone tagged Seanan McGuire on it. It is a very Seanan thing.
Dana, I'm sorry to hear about the layoff.
Cindy, ita would have been proud of that link. ::wipes a tear of pride::
Thank you. I was tempted to just link with the text, "That'll give you bees" and immediately thought of ita. I didn't want to trigger anyone though. I have something of an eye squick, so I'm still shuddering, just thinking about it.
Coming home to an empty house is really hard. Huge chunks of my day seem completely purposeless with Franny. Bah.
Oh, Amy! Did Franny pass? I'm so sorry. ♥
Was her father actually Robert Kardashian, or did she get step-fathered or whatnot? (I have not paid much attention at all to the entire lot of them.)
Yes. Robert was the father of the older kids. Caitlyn Jenner fathered the younger kids (two girls, I think), when she was publicly identifying as Bruce and was married to Kris (the mom).
Just for your information, meet Sollasina cthulhu ... named after you-know-who.
Good one, namers of things!
Oh man, that really sucks Dana. Good luck with the job search.
My therapist thinks I should look into going on low dose ritalin but it's hard to think that any problems I have getting shit done aren't just due to my laziness and willingness to be distracted.
That's basically what every adult with ADHD says, I think.
I got a referral from my doctor for a doc who specializes in identifying and diagnosing ADD/ADHD in adults, but I lost it. Classic.
Apparently Kim is doing the California read-the-law thing with mentors instead of going to law school. (Which would be impossible anyway for someone as famous as her.) She meets for a few hours every day with some lawyer mentors and after a year she'll have to take a test to allow her to continue in the program.
At some point, she will have to take the bar, which ... I dunno. I respect her interest, but I have never felt as stupid as I did taking the California bar. And the pass rate for people who don't go to law school is somewhere around 30%.
I dunno if y'all remember when John Kennedy Jr. failed the NY bar, and it was national news. I don't know if Kim is going to want to go through that. But maybe she will, and it'll be fine.
I avoid Kardasian news, but I'm hoping she pulls it off. Kudos to her for making it public partway through the process. I'd hate to be trying to do intense studying with the public so curious.
