Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I have no idea. It hurts a bit and it's swollen. But I'm paralyzed below the knee. So even if I broke it badly, I wouldn't know it.

Thrive to spite them

I hope your days get better sj snd maybelle. Glad you got your meds Dana.

Got updates from my aunt and Dad. My aunt's house , which is close to the coast, is fine and no damage. The Gulf Specimen Marine Lab has some damage but it's not as bad as it could have been.

Dad had a big tree down in his yard. Two giant pines are down across the main road and the tops are in his yard. Don't know if he can go the other way to get out but probably not .

There are about 200 roads closed in and around Tallahassee from downed trees and power lines . Even if Dad could get out I don't think he could get to the beach to check out the cottage because of road closures and flooding. I'm not sure though

There has been flash flooding in SC, NC, and GA.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

I realized how much I like her, because when I talked back to my TV, I called her "Teppy."

Ha!

Oh hey! Can Tim get some interview-ma in about 90 minutes? He has an interview for a job that would be easier on him physically, with opportunities for advancement. I guess, job-ma, good salary-ma, and good benefits-ma.

Our wings are not tired.

~ma for Tim.

I hope that the ankle issue is something minor and easily fixable, sj.

Good that you have heard from your family, askye. The pictures from the area are awful.

Jessica, the internet is indeed a scary place.

Saw a couple minutes of the Kanye who's the biggest narcissist battle with Trump, but I had adequate buffer that I was able to skip over most of it. Um, surreal.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

On the other hand, I was VICTORIOUS! In getting someone to put some words on a piece of paper and getting someone else to print it out on big nice paper. This took many emails and phone calls to accomplish and potentially made someone important mad at me.

If only it were Wednesday, this would be perfect for David Schwartz's Small Victory Wednesday.

Woot! Tiny Victory Thursday!

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

Congrats, erika! sj, I hope your ankle is ok. Glad you got your meds, Dana. askye, I hope your dad stays safe. Interview ~ma for Tim!

Here at UNC, they declared adverse weather conditions as of 2:00 p.m., (meaning we can go home) right around the time that the county we are in sent out a warning not to drive unless it's an emergency because of flash flooding. Brilliant!

Two conversations I had with my 26-year-old co-worker today:

1) Me: "You should go see the new Joan Jett documentary. It's really good."

Her: ::writes it down:: "OK. What's it called?"

Me: "Bad Reputation."

Her: "OK. Who's Joan Jett?"

2) Her: "Haha, the guy I'm responding to has a really hilarious last name. Shelley."

Me: "...What's funny?"

Her: "I don't know...like he lives in a shell...like a turtle?"

Me: "Is it spelled S-H-E-L-L-E-Y?"

Her: "Yes."

Me: "So, like Mary Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley."

Her: "This is going to be another one of those times that you talk about people I've never heard of. I've never heard of those people."

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

26 is too young to be a Millennial, right? Do we have a name for Young People OMG now that Millennials are grown up?

What is even happening?

I think people born in 97 are the tail-end of the millennials, so 26 is not too young.

Mental Floss contends 96 was the last year millennials were born. [link]

The Atlantic keeps Gen Y following Gen X, then adds in millennials, who they say were born between 82 and 2004. [link]
