Hey, guys.
So there was a pounding on my apartment door last night and the guy was yelling about fire. So I stuck my head out and yep, that was fire streaming out of an apartment down the way. So I shoved everything in my pockets I could think of, grabbed both laptops, and left the door open for the firemen.
Long story short, they got the fire out and no one was hurt, but about 10 units on two floors were destroyed. Mine was right on the edge of the affected area; there was no serious damage but they ripped out part of the ceiling to get an ember out and tromped all over my CD collection. But the power's out and I don't know when I'll be let back in, or if I'll be able to stay at all.
So I'll be at a hotel for a few days, and I've got the insurance people notified, but I was wondering if anyone here had gone through something like this, and what it was like for you.
Yikes! Best wishes to get through all that okay, and I'm glad you are all right.
Yikes Chris that is awful! Albeit not as bad as it could be, I suppose. Do you have renters insurance? Were you able to go back in at all and/or secure the apartment? If nothing else I'd recommend taking lots of photos/videos. I hope it all works out ok, but what a hassle to have to go through.
Holy crap, chris! Glad you're OK, and I hope most of your stuff is OK.
Crop, chrismg! How awful. What meara said. I haven't gone through it myself, but I did have a friend who did the inspection stuff and he said the insurance companies were generally good about damage, including even smoke damage because some things like furniture you can't get the smell out of.
Haven't watched yet, but in theory I think I will like hostless substantially more than the awkward scripted roasting stuff they have done in the past. Ick.
I now realize this is not worth complaining about, but is anything more annoying at work than getting instructions you don't quite understand, working on something, and then getting feedback that it should basically be the thing you started with a month ago? (Not that I've been working on this for a month. Mostly I've been not-working on it.)
Jesse I've had something of the opposite experience, where I put off doing a difficult or massive task, only to find, when I buckle down to do it, that I need more information before I can actually start, and would've realized that weeks ago if I'd started it when I should've.
Work
is
annoying! I am currently annoyed at the higher ups flying by saying "everything ok? Anyone need help?" or even "Good morning" so fast that by the time I turn around to respond they are gone. That does not count as interaction in my book.
