OMG, I just say my pending paycheck for my first week. I knew it would be bigger, but I didn't really put together how much the raise and lower benefits cost would add up to each paycheck. That's rather pleasant. I am feeling terrified of failing at the new job. I'm making contributions, but I'm not doing it quickly. OTOH, it's only been three days and the first one was full of getting set up. This afternoon was largely new hire orientation meetings so there hasn't been loads of time.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm going to take a stand that there's no way to make a meaningful contribution at a new job until you've been there three months.

Oh god I hope not (in the middle of hiring a bunch of people). But, yeah, no way after a couple of days!!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Gud, given that you are recovering from flu, have started a new job, and have slipped and hurt yourself twice, you shouldn't be doing anything else around the house for the next few days.

Our wings are not tired

Yeah, I assume three months for my new employees to really get up to speed.

Herding cats for fun

Binged all the episodes of Black Books awhile back. I don't know how Dylan Moran was unrelenting curmudgeonly without making me loathe his character, but it was quite enjoyable.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

A bit of a long shot and random, but - are there any Buffistas in or with knowledge of Lawrence, KS? A wonderful friend that I love dearly will be there for an academic conference in April. She really hates flights so I am looking for things that might lift her spirits while she's there (a good vegan place, general recommendations, etc.).

Woke up this morning, got in the shower, and heard my neighbor running the snowblower! I didn't think we were supposed to get much snow, and it turns out, we didn't -- just a couple of inches. I just think he likes the new machine. Also last night I was afraid I had pinkeye, but now I think it was just something in my eyeball.

In short, I am at work.

That's a big yes here. I worked in downtown Lawrence until last Friday.

She definitely should go to downtown Lawrence on Massachusetts street, or 'Mass' as people say. There are a lot of unique and interesting shops there, and lots of great food. If she likes beer she can check out Free State Brewery (also a great place to eat) or Lawrence Beer Company (two of my former co-workers are part owners). Just strolling around that area and poking into interesting-looking places can be fun.

The KU museum of Natural History is also pretty cool. It's right the KU campus.
