So my favorite restaurant got death threats because someone was butthurt about a poster of this [link] (owner is friends with ilegal mezcal.) Word got around, media followed up. Tons of people came out to support yesterday [link]
Of course, it also means the internet trolls are out. I stopped by today, with cookies, & she cried on my shoulder. It's a lot of extremes of emotion to process. It made her laugh when I gestured to the room full of people from many races & languages & backgrounds 'this dream is the asshole's nightmare. And we've got full bellies.' Thing is, I'm sure the asshole just saw the poster in the window, cause if they'd made it inside, they woulda fled. It's is a fucking shrine to feminism, chingonas (that word features prominently in the decor,) pro-immigrant & all things Mexican. Hell, the assholes probably had to google pendejo.
Anyway, I was heartened to see at least 4 newbies come in BECAUSE they'd heard about the threat & also see a lot of her other regulars come in with words of support in addition to orders & taking selfies with her.
And now I have a quart of posole & a tamale that I'm still too full to eat (one sope asada & one al pastor & atole (think hot horchata) fills me up all day. It's not a ton of food, it's just filling.)
* also, I worry about any customers who are undocumented, who might not feel safe anymore because of the spotlight.
