My extensive research on food-based dwellings leads me to suspect that house is inhabited by a witch.

And what's the point? A weirdly meltable but no longer edible house does not sound like fun to me. (Although I really enjoy that Japanese game show where you have to figure out what parts of the room are made of chocolate!)
Yeah, I would be much more intrigued without the varnish. Although the whole question of how this house is inside another house that is made of glass is confusing and interesting.
