Yeah i think even if all the folks I know are trying to keep it small or be careful or whatever, we are still going to have a crazy spike post-thanksgiving. And yet I’m still super depressed that I have zero plans.

Also am all for a Nilly zoom!

information libertarian

I think I may have prevailed on my mother not to put her 87 year old husband in the car and drive 12 hours to Charlottesville to attend a family memorial gathering for her aunt, with other attendees coming from Baltimore, Oklahoma and the UK, and none of them under 55. I mean at least her 93 year old medically fragile uncle already survived Covid? (The aunt died in her sleep, unexpectedly but peacefully, at 88.)

Did I mention my mother is a registered nurse? But not very sensible.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I am pro Nilly Zoom.

Shir you can email me any pictures.

I am anti Tim’s co-worker.

I am not seeing anyone over any Holiday unless Mac does a 180 and decides he want to visit. I am still planning to go to Disney in Jan. It is booked and flights are bought. I doubt I will cancel unless they close, have an outbreak, or offer a fee-free delay. I will alter what I do there and it may mean fewer indoor rides.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

We had to cancel Peanut & my mom's birthday lunch yesterday (they have the same birthday) because we're all so worried about the spikes. They only live 2 hours away, and we're all pretty careful, but it just didn't feel like a good idea. I'm so sad and so angry that this is still such a concern.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

shakes fist and stares ragefully in the general direction of Tim's coworker

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Teppy, that is rage-making. I'm just so over people who don't want to regularly wear masks. I had to take my double mask off for like a minute during my last Kaiser procedure and felt awful, despite not really having a choice or basically being alone when I did so. It's why I didn't go to Peter's memorial gathering in person, just in case. The fact that people are willfully not wearing them with far greater exposure risk is maddening.

Oh, Megan Walker, I remember Peter (and that apartment) so well - iirc he’d moved to the east bay. That’s so sad that he’s gone. I’m *almost* over Cash & Guns.

Yes, when we had to leave that house (because Peter's friend who owned it was moving back to the city), Peter bought a place in the East Bay.

I have 2 gallons of disinfectant cleaner and have started re-stocking cans and non-perishables.

I am less worried about TP and disinfectant but that is probably because at some point I ordered more than I needed, but I did recently do another round of ordering to stock up on canned goods, beans, and grains.

I'm so worried about the impact Thanksgiving and other holiday gatherings this year are going to have on this pandemic. Lots of folks are going to be really careful, others are not. There are going to be people traveling home no matter what the lockdowns try to do.

I am very worried about this. Even my niece and nephew, who are in general very careful themselves but I'm sure interact with people who aren't, aren't even really contemplating not going home for Thanksgiving, let alone Christmas, when their mother has said explicitly that if they can't quarantine she doesn't want them to (since she is having hip replacement surgery in between).

JenP - Nov 16, 2020 12:13:58 pm PST #29767 of 30019

Boy JenP, that's a lot of households coming together.

Yeah, you're right. And especially taking into account ND's point about a post-Thanksgiving surge likelihood. I think I need to make Christmas in the apartment more of a thing than it's ever been (I am lazy and take advantage of helping my sister's fam decorate the day after T-Day, then going up there for actual Christmas, and before that, it was all of us at my mom's, so... pretty much slack on my own space.) Holy shit, I need to be an adult who prepares and does Christmas this year. I have avoided that for 53 years, y'all. Gah. I just want to see my stupid family.

My parents have started stocking up on TP and other items assuming there will be another “shortage”. I have 16 rolls and plan to get more after work today. I have 2 gallons of disinfectant cleaner and have started re-stocking cans and non-perishables. I plan on either a TJs or ALDI run today.

Am making an Aldi run, too. I really only worry about TP and cleaner at this point, but stores I visit (all two of them?) have limits on stuff still for the most part, so I'm not super worried. Yet. No one quote me in a month, please. I'm still going to buy two big packs of TP today.

Tim always wears a mask at work, but the co-worker does not, MOTHERFUCKER.

When I called my mother to cancel Thanksgiving, we commiserated about how fucking angry we are at people who aren't isolating and wearing masks.

Fucking non-mask-wearing-motherfuckers. Good vibes for Tim's test, needless to say, but that co-worker is a fucking moron; that's so anger inducing.

They said something like "Dear 2020 F@#K U" and "Back the F@#K up". I get why they were pulled (it's the brand for teens/young adults) but I am really feeling those sentiments right now

Amen, sister.

I have to stop meara-ing, because I keep seeing new posts I want to add to it. Which is AWESOME, but also... the lab closes at 4p, so... that's that. Love all around, people.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Thanks, msbelle. I'll send you the pics.

Did I mention my mother is a registered nurse? But not very sensible.

Wait, we share a mom? Mine sent us antivax COVID vids and insist they're true (though she also made sure I'll get a flu shot, so mixed messages much).

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Fucking non-mask-wearing-motherfuckers. Good vibes for Tim's test, needless to say, but that co-worker is a fucking moron; that's so anger inducing.

I mean, Tim is diligent about wearing his mask, so I'm somewhat reassured because of 2 things, one of which is actually data-based and one of which is pure anecdata: (1) the CDC recently confirmed that masks *do* protect the wearer, not just other people; and (2) my father, the poster boy for Holy Shit You Are High Risk, has been working at a grocery store through this entire pandemic, and is required to wear a mask while at work, and he's fine (as far as we know; obviously he could be asymptomatically infected, but I'm going with the "he's fine" theory). So we know that masks help. But if Tim's co-worker would have worn a fucking mask, it would have helped EVEN MORE GOD DAMN IT.
