Great news for Melbourne today: we reported zero new COVID cases, for the first time in 139 days - this despite a testing blitz around a possible outbreak in the northern suburbs. At its peak we were seeing over 700 new cases a day. It's been months of severe restrictions, but it's finally been brought under control. Nonessential businesses can reopen after months of shutdown. For the last 112 days we've only been permitted to leave home for specific reasons; from tomorrow that's lifted. (I'll still be working from home for the time being.) We're crossing our fingers that tomorrow we'll hear Ryan can go visit the neighbour's boy again. (It may be another month or so before we can start up the D&D game again though.)

Yay, Melbourne! Nice to hear good covid news from somewhere.
I love that, Matt - so cool!
Oh, my gosh, bt, that is wonderful news. Way to go, Melbourne.
If I forgot to say, thanks for the baked oatmeal link, auralia.
That is great news from Melbourne! I feel like that may never happen here.
The weather-guessers were right this time. Got a little snow last night. My pepper plant looks a little Christmas-y. [link]
Well done, aurelia!
Awesome news from Melbourne. I'm less hopeful for us.
Super cool, Matt!
dcp, that really does look like a itty bitty Christmas tree.
Yay for the good news out of Melbourne, Billytea!
Good on Melbourne.
Matt, that's very cool.
It really is great news, and it's been hard-bought. Melbourne's had one of the longest lockdowns in the world, probably the longest at that level of severity. (We spent over a month with an 8 pm curfew and a prohibition on travelling over 5 km from home except for essential work and emergencies.) Plus moronic anti-mask protests and the federal govt politicising the lockdown. But finally we're there!
Truth be told I love being at home 24/7 with the family, but the cost to others' livelihoods has been high, and it's a valid question whether we should have opened up a bit earlier. But it's surely saved thousands of lives. (Ryan has been really good about being stuck at home. He's suggesting this warrants him getting an X-Box. He may have an argument there.)
If I forgot to say, thanks for the baked oatmeal link, auralia.
I can't take credit for that. I did bookmark it to try out though.
That is excellent news, billytea.
Meanwhile, here we're reducing Dr. Ezike to tears and have Dr. Arwady barely containing her anger at the assholes who've taken us right back to where we were in March/April. They must be so tired.
