Very sad to hear about Chadwick Boseman's passing.
I went to pick up dinner for us tonight before the curfew and it was strange seeing most of the businesses with the windows boarded up (my normal work commute doesn't take me through the city proper) but there's been a concerted effort this week for volunteers to paint the boards, so it was great to see all the hopeful pictures and messages.
The last few nights have been peaceful. While there's still protesting going on and probably will continue, there thankfully hasn't been any of the violence recently. Though El Cheeto Supreme is apparently visiting on Tuesday to talk to our law enforcement and survey the damage, so who knows if he's going to set things off again or not.
{{Maria}} Lots of health~ma, with an extra dose of it's~nothing~ma!
Lots and lots of health~ma, Maria. I hope you start doing better quickly.
Health~ma to you Maria. May it be something minor and easily treated!
Health-ma, Maria!
Kalshane, I hadn't realized that you're at Ground Zero for that particular dumpster fire. Yikes.
Lots of health-ma Maria!
Theodosia- We moved here from northern IL about 12 years ago because taxes were lower and the schools were better (at least where we could afford a house.) Living so close, I spent a decent amount of time in Kenosha before we moved here anyway, so it wasn't a huge change for me.
My wife loves that we're in walking distance from downtown (where she has several favorite local shops) while still in a more suburban-style neighborhood. She knows all the neighbors and pre-Covid we used to do cookouts with a few of them several times a year. (Though I'd take my leave as soon as it was polite to do so. Not because of any issue with the neighbors but just that I can only take so much peopling at a time.)
She's a social butterfly, so the Covid lockdown has been really tough on her. She also hates that she can't help with the downtown recovery efforts because she's high-risk with Covid-19. (Some friends of ours who live nearby also just had their first child back in May and it's driving her bonkers she can't go visit and get baby snuggles.)
One thing that gave me a good laugh today is one the auto repair places in town has painted "I assure you we're open!" on their boarded up windows a la Clerks. There's some idiots in town, but I think the vast majority of people want to stay hopeful and make things better for everyone who lives here.
