Dr Chompwrs is making me laugh. Perhaps whatever dog it is will be Dr Name Chompers.
To be fair, my old roommate and I fostered a cat she then adopted. It came with the name Rucifee, but we added that he is Count Rucifee von Kittenpants.

Noam Chompsky.
Ooh, I like that one, but do you really want to be yelling "Noam" all the time?
I am personally against using person names for animals because then you end up in a scenario like my friend who named their dog Audrey...then her sister married a woman named Audrey. So it's not uncommon for the name to come up in conversation followed by "auntie or doggie?"
I knew a couple with a dog named Jessie (dog came with husband). Then they had a daughter and named her Jessie (wife had always loved the name and wanted to use it).
It was semi-hilarious.
Thank you for the ~ma!

On that criterion you should name your dog "I want ice cream". Because then, every time you call your dog, there's a non-zero possibility that someone will give you ice cream.

There was a Dear Prudie letter a little while ago with this woman who was outraged that her ex-husband and his new wife had got a new dog who had the same name as their daughter. They didn't name the dog, it already had that name. She was outraged, and even considering legal action over the dog's name. It was... quite the trip.
