Get that money, Zenkitty! It won't really help when you're doing multiple jobs, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Sorry about your brother, Laura. It's so hard.

Okay, so I've been dealing with brain weasels plus work being busy. My mom woke me up this morning with a phone call because she was worried that I hadn't texted her back and she saw that COVID-19 cases are climbing in San Francisco. We chatted for a while and then I flopped back into bed. Eventually I managed to get up, feed myself, and shower. Put on some clean pajamas and a headband, because the hair is out of control.

And then a little while ago a neighbor started knocking on my door for help with the building laundry room. I was flustered and forgot to put on a mask when I reluctantly opened the door, but she was wearing one. Apparently the machines aren't working right? She doesn't speak English and my Portuguese is so bad that we couldn't really communicate, but I have never used the building laundry room because I have an in-unit washer and dryer. I tried to understand and help, but y'all, I don't know how to troubleshoot this. I retreated back into my apartment, but a little while passed and she knocked AGAIN. Am I terrible for not answering the door this time? I'm not the building supervisor just because my apartment is across the hall from the laundry room!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Am I terrible for not answering the door this time?

Nope!

I knew I could count on you for validation.

Always. There isn't even anything you can do. It's not your job, and it doesn't take precedence over your needs and your life.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm with Dana. You can't help! It's not your job!

Good luck with all of that, Zen. Yikes.

Different good luck wishes to Laura!

Good luck shrift!

I drove a long ass way to take a short walk with a friend. And now all my other friends have punked out on doing anything, and I'm bummed and sad and hate this fucking covid.

Also mad because I ordered a thing on the internet that seemed scammy and then it actually arrived...and totally doesn't work. BOO.

Our wings are not tired.

Yep.

I'm sorry, meara. That is a lot of frustration.

Our wings are not tired.

DH is motoring along and expects to be here late tonight. He is taking a longer route, but one that is super relaxing for him. Hugging the coast, over the Chesapeake Bay, then taking the Cape May - Lewes ferry to New Jersey. He has Skinner with him and the Ferry operators told him he can walk the dog on deck. And they get a couple hours rest. Then he'll visit with his sister. She's a bus driver in NYC and gets home from work around 5. He'll have dinner with her then head the last 5-6 hours up here. Then 6AM Tuesday I drive him to the airport. One day! That's my short visit. Oh well.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

Seconding the hating this fucking covid. I heard last night from a friend (shall be referred to as "J") that the dispatch center where I used to work and J still does notified them via a vague email that someone who works there tested positive and was last in the building July 19th.

They were told not to "gossip" about who it might be. Considering that it's one huge room that is constantly occupied around the clock and where social distancing is impossible...of course everyone is kinda freaking out. They are all supposed to be masked at all times...while talking on the phone to callers and dispatching police/fire/medical. J says that mask compliance is spotty at best. She has a decent idea of who it probably is, and that person has a sister who also works there and is now off the future schedule. But the sister was at work yesterday and overlapped by several hours with J...who is now freaking out (understandably.)

J was also one of the three people taking care of my cats while I'm out of town. For two evenings next weekend. She's isolating outside of work, but still reporting to work unless she becomes symptomatic. Wants to know if I still want her to come over and feed my cats. I honestly don't know. On the one hand, it would be her (masked) coming into a house empty of humans to feed two cats and scoop litter boxes, and AFAIK the current understanding of viral persistence on surfaces is not a concern. But there are also cases of domestic cats catching the Covid from their peoples. So could my cats become vectors for other cat-carers? My knee-jerk reaction is that I'll just find other coverage for those visits....that seems best, right? I just don't even know these days what to say.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

Also I was on a place two days ago and have a sore throat today. Trying not to freak out. I usually get a sore throat sleeping in different places due to low ambient humidity (I sleep with a humidifier at home) and new allergens. My eyes are also super puffy yesterday and today. I'm in my mom's three bedroom townhouse, masked except when I'm in the guest room/bathroom. But of course in terror of giving the covid to my 73 yo mom going into surgery on Wednesday. Ack.
