Natter 76: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Foaminess
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Cape Cod. So same state but a 2 hour drive.
Not knowing the details in Mass., it looks like you can probably do it if you want, and if it will give you a break to be able to keep your shit better together when things get bad again.
If it will not do that for you (e.g. if planning and logistics will just stress you out MORE), then don't go. Definitely double-plus social distancing while you're there, to avoid being a vector in either direction.
I'm guessing LTC is of an age where the beach etc is super stressful regardless, so I think I'd skip it if I were you. (For myself, I just found a beach rental for a few days, but that's different.)
I'm in the skip it camp unless you will find relaxation staying in while in a different place. The times that I have driven through the tourist town near here it has completely freaked me out. So many people, so close together.
We've had lovely sight seeing adventures in the car, windmills, and deer, and bear, lovely rivers and lakes. But the people places like restaurants are packed. We've only done take out.
Change of scenery is nice, but weighing which is more stressful is key.
I mean at this point I'd totally vote for a change of pace if it seemed safe enough. But I don't have the same stressors as you do, so get it if you don't find the balance worthy!
Today was a total loss for me other than setting up a new wifi. Basically I slept all day long. And all I've eaten is a sleeve of saltines, and Gatorade. Because I didn't sleep last night and my stomach was not at all happy. And so I got up around 10 or 11 and spread out the tent to dry (since it was v damp with dew when I packed it in at 530am) and folded it back up a couple hours later. And I read a book. And got an amazon delivery of a new WiFi router that I'm hoping will help some internet issues. And then I napped. And then it was like 5pm and my head hurt and I took some meds and napped more and suddenly it was 10:30pm and people were setting off fireworks and now I'm awake. Booooooo.
In today's episode of Insomnia: Quarantine Edition I am freshly annoyed at The Kids' (why do I have teenagers when I never had children?) refusal to RESTOCK THE EFFING TOILET PAPER WHEN THEY USE THE LAST ROLL. Its getting smaller and smaller and I am not going down to the basement to get a fresh package even if I have to carry tp from my room every damn time I pee. Again.
I'm going to weep with joy when girlfriend lives at her own house again. Pretty soon our landlords are going to object (thank god). The other roommates, I think, are beginning to get annoyed at the general untidiness and lack of pitching in of our little lovebirds. At least The Kids have started kicking in extra on electricity - they've been running that AC 24/7 since April at what must be 60 degrees. (That may be an exaggeration... but it may not! I've never actually looked at the thing. It did in fact go in in April.)
In amusing news, all it took to get me to start playing games (both board and now RPG) is locking me inside for a few months. The roomies are slowly going back to their offices, but I think D&D night will live on.
I still do not have work for the foreseeable future - it will be a while before law firms use temps again and television/film production is still shut down despite periodic whispers to the contrary. Mercifully, the state has extended unemployment benefits and I socked away just about all of the federal UI supplement because I knew this was likely to happen. I really am blessed to be able to ride out this storm in relative (albeit irritated) comfort.
I've finished my first (online, remote) exam for the season. It was three hours ago, and I've been trying to move from the couch for the last hour and a half. Am tired. Couch is comfy.
Well, 2020 just keeps going ... now it's flying snakes. oy
And apparently one case of bubonic plague in China. AND Kanye is running for president. 2020 is all about upping the ante.
