"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I keep telling her that.

Herding cats for fun

Tell her WE are celebrating DH's Birthday today and we are not inviting her to share our lox and bagel breakfast.

So, Happy Birthday! May your tantrum child calm down and enjoy the lobster.

I was supposed to go early morning hiking but my partner bailed because she's not feeling well (she warned me last night but this morning said she felt worse). I don't feel like hiking by myself though. Bummer. I was looking forward to some greenery. Instead I went back to sleep, and now it's 10am and I'm just getting out of bed. Oops.

yum lobster.

I passed on mountain biking with my sibs this morning because I'm still recovering from giving blood two weeks ago. Turns out it takes 4-6 weeks to repopulate your hemoglobin, especially if you're not taking extra iron, which I wasn't. So I don't feel as bad about being gaspy and out of breath, but I wasn't about to be miserable and well-behind everyone else for a couple of hours in the hot sun. Next weekend, maybe.

My weekend is going to involve some baking: I think I will make rough-puff pastry and try to do kouign aman again. I hope this time they're less chewy (I don't think bread flour is appropriate, too much gluten develops).

Other than that, I will watch Hamilton and maybe start on that Netflix animated show Kibo something.

Thrive to spite them

So there were store level layoffs . People were talking about this at work today.

Yeah our economy was already struggling because it was too based on consuming. And I don't think there are enough people in power who really want to commit to changing things.

It's easy to talk about bringing jobs back as a campaign promises but those people don't want to deal with the reality of what they entails.

Because books.

kouign aman

They are so tricky. But go you, with the ambition and the rough-puff!

So there were store level layoffs

I'm sorry, askye. It's such an uncertain, scary time.

The bakery is closed until Wednesday! I am beyond excited. I'm also going to bake, but probably mundane stuff like banana bread and an apple cake.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

This weekend was supposed to be the Northeastern filk con, aka NEFilk. A virtual version, with plenty of concerts, is happening under the name NEWhere.(Gary is the guest of honor, and has a concert tomorrow.)

What is even happening?

Remember Fandom Wank on JournalFen?

It should still exist, just for this Hamilton fic wank that has EVERYTHING. [link]

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I've literally never seen the phrase "gentrifying cannibalism" before.
