Natter 76: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Foaminess
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
It's like frozen yogurt. Perfect tasty as itself, but it's not the same thing as, or a substitute for, ice cream.
Beat me to it.
the cops have been mostly okay here. They tear gassed and arrested a bunch of people for pretty much no reason, but
The bar should be higher than this, though.
My company is matching donations to BLM up to $50k, which is good, but they are doing it by collecting the money from us and then making the donation including their match which seems weird. I guess that's how they do thhe matching thing when we collect donations during the outlet sale so this was easy to implement, but it's weird. Whatever, I made a small donation so it would be doubled. When I am hopefully at a point where i can make larger donations (next paycheck, fingers crossed) I will probably be doing more direct giving and bail relief and missing out on the matching. If it even lasts that long.
A kid was killed by police in Vallejo earlier this week. I say kid, he looked like a kid to me in the pictures I saw, probably a young man. It wasn't a matter of police brutality at a protest, but it clearly should not have happened. He was kneeling in the street with his hands up, one of the cops saw something in his waistband, thought it was a gun, and shot him dead. It was a hammer.
This can't keep happening.
Wouldn't it be nice if deadly force were a last resort and not a first?

Yeah, that's crappy because it means they get the tax deduction and you don't.
I couldn't still deduct it? Not that the amount I donate makes itemizing worthwhile these days, so kinda doesn't matter. I'm fairly certain they are doing it this way because it is an easier process for them, not because of the tax implications, or not primarily, it's probably both...sigh
I can barely keep my eyes open. Two more hours of work.
Oh, and someone replied-all to the announcement from HR asking if donations could also be made to food banks and women's shelters. Not a person I know to talk to, but talk about missing the point.
Timelies all!
The little aggravations keep coming. Now my watch doesn't run. I suspect a dead battery, but I don't know how to open it, and the places that replace watch batteries probably aren't open. Guess I'll have to order a new one.
Usually a watch bezel will have an indent on the back of the case to show where to pry off the back. You might succeed with a butter knife and ID the type of batteries required. It was pretty easy to take apart a bunch of old watches for art projects. A couple of cases look like steampunk goggles, and the leather strap is fun for boots and belts.
Just in case you needed to know that.
You may be able to find a watchmaker/repair person working at an independent shop by appointment. I know that's true here anyway.
I signed up to go downtown tomorrow (today) to hand out water bottles in front of my workplace. It looks like driving is not going to be possible and public transit will probably be a 90 minute ride (south bound platforms are closed, so I'll have to ride to the north end before going south) plus a 2 mile walk on the downtown end. (My start and end points are around 9 miles apart.) I hope my ankle holds up after being holed up for 2+ months.
I hope your ankle does ok.
I got a little bright spot. I went to make a credit card payment and the minimum due was substantial less than I expected. I went ahead and paid the amount I was planning (the minimum plus a little extra).
I've done pretty good on budgeting and not over spending but I have fallen down the rabbit hole of buying lunch. My biggest issue is forgetting to put the icepacks in the freezer so I need to get a few more.
We can use the break room again if we social distance but some people don't. The food court is open for social distance eating but I try to avoid it. partly because it's very warm. The mall isn't as cool as it normally is but I think the number of stores that are closed is an issue. The ac isn't on in those so there isn't as much sir flow and all these hot spots that are driving up the over all temperature.
Snacking on carob chips?? But whyyyyy?
I don't know what to tell you, meara, I just picked up a taste for them. I was allergic to chocolate as a kid, but Mom never tried to tell me it was "just like chocolate," just that that was what I could have. Of course, I also enjoy drinking tonic water straight, so my tastes are kind of odd all around.
Gris, before my mother retired, parent-teacher conferences were one of her biggest headaches, and she always said she never had enough time to engage properly.
