I'm paying attention to FB mostly because my great nephew's wife is probably giving birth today, making my sister a great-grandmother. She's been begging to be induced for weeks and apparently the doctor gave in today. They are supposedly trying a couple other things first, but she is in the hospital.
So I've been watching my about to be a grandmother niece's page, and she's talking about supervolcano activity. Because we are just running short on that list of crises.
Now that I have watched (some not all) Community, I read the xkcd comic in Abed's voice.
The bright spot in all of this is that, while a crisis reveals who people are, sometimes "who they are" surprises you in a good way. Remember, there have been multiple law enforcement groups engaging with protestors and de-escalating. The county sheriff here in SA met with protestors, marched with them a ways, and promised the right to assembly would be protected.
Big tech companies making press releases may not be as substantive as we'd like, but even that much shows which way they think the wind is blowing.
Good choice, msbelle
We just got a curfew, so far just for tonight. The wording is trying pretty hard to say it's because of looting and not because of protests.
I wonder if this is going to disrupt our warehouse swing shift. Actually I think we have 3 shifts going. well, it does say people "going to work" are exempt, hopefully being indoors at work is ok also...
I'm working on sewing some masks for protestors, either here tomorrow or for someone to bring up to Columbus over the weekend. It's not much, but it's what I can do.
That's a lovely thing to do, hil! We just got back from getting a bunch of plants for the yard. We chose by using our strict design rubric: is it less than $7?
Whew, end of the work day and I'm furloughed tomorrow. And it's another heat advisory, so not the funnest day off, but I think lying around not working while I melt will be nicer than working while I melt? Maybe I will go grocery shopping and see about donating blood...
I really love my neighborhood. Someone posted on the neighborhood FB group earlier today that she and her husband screenprinted a batch of Black Lives Matter signs and offered to drop them off at people's houses for anyone who wanted one. I replied maybe an hour ago, and she just dropped the sign off. So nice!
