I'm trying to not say things like "why don't I run to the store to get heavy cream so we can have real whipped cream" or "why don't I run to the farmstand to pick up apples so we can have real applesauce." The food we'll have will be fine and I appreciate the work going into it even if it's not the way my family does things.
You are a strong and kind person, lisah.
You are also a strong and patriotic person, Laura.
I have done some errands and done laundry and gotten a haircut -- feeling good!
Laura, it's like showing up for jury duty -- even your boredom helps the wheels of justice (and fair recount) roll evenly.
The chief guy sent us home until 5:30 because the machine recount has to finish before the hand recount. The core people have been sleeping in cots while staying here 24 hours a day. The machines are old and don't work very well. I have a great deal of experience working with scanners and wanted to help them out, but only actual employees could do the machine stuff.
FWIW, the Dems had tons of people bringing food and drink. Like real food, pizzas, bbq chicken and stuff. The Reps had protesters. Most of the observers were friendly enough between the groups. Heard all kinds of stories about shenanigans, but I expect a certain amount is rumor mongering.
My district's potential winner was there the whole time thanking people for coming for the recount. His manual recount should be the one we do at 5:30. He is officially at 36 votes difference, but he knows of quite a few people who came to fix their "signature" issues and believes he is ahead now. If my personal district flips due to this recount it will more than be worth it. Also, met quite a few really nice dedicated people. Mostly older women activists. Met a lovely young Haitian woman who is running for Mayor in March in the city right north of me. We discussed the importance of getting the youth involved.
I love hearing about this, Laura.
Thank you for helping protect our democracy, Laura.
I took the dog out to agility class, and hardly anyone showed up, so we got an extra run. We have a new classmate: a lovely 18-month old black standard poodle named Jet. He's super athletic and enthusiastic, and he moves like he has springs in his legs. So wonderful to watch.
I'm doing laundry and that's about it.
I confess, if I got a poodle, it would spend most of its time wearing the extra-silly poodle cut.
Timelies all!
This has not been a fun con so far, mostly because Mr. S is being horrible.
Sorry that Mr. S is ruining the con fun.
I am back home again. 9 hours or so of back and forth today. At 7 they told us the machine count we had been observing was just the early vote and they still had the absentee and provisionals to do. They were saying it would be at least 3 more hours before manual recount. Sorry, past my bedtime. They were going to seat the attorney observers first and there were bunches of them and I am sure they will have enough people. They were only looking at maybe 3-5 thousand ballots that needed to be manually counted for the race they were doing tonight. We'll see what the morrow brings.
It's Cool Whip, isn't it?
It was spray can fake whipped cream. BUT there was surprise real cranberry sauce with apples! And everything was generally yummy if not what my family does for Thanksgiving.
OMG, not only does the air taste like grit, but now there's a car alarm that's been going off for two hours.
I need one of my senses to be Not Under Assault.
