Work is. Eh. The ship from store business with the managers here has really kept things afloat. If it hadn't there would have been layoffs.

Mostly people around here are very compliant, but every once in a while I will see a cluster of people with no masks and it just is so frustrating.

Yesterday on my ride down the beach there was a cluster of about 8 people waiting for the light to change. All had masks except one runner, but she stood way to the side of the rest of them jogging in place waiting for the light.

I see a lot of dog-walkers and runners who aren't wearing masks, but most people have been really good about wearing masks into the bakery. Keeping them far enough apart is tough, though, without marks on the floor (which the owner won't have; she won't even let us put a sign up about the masks, although every other open store in town has one). Our space isn't that big, either, and we don't have enough staff to have someone work the door (not that the owner would have that either, honestly).

But an Italian market in the next block is monitoring the number of shoppers in the store at all times, insisting on masks, and providing gloves, which they ask you to put on.

The grocery I go to has six-foot markers (pre-printed signs with foot icons) and all the aisles are marked one way. There are, of course, the people who plant themselves in an aisle and I find myself with the choice of either walking within six feet of them or turning around and going the wrong way in that aisle to try another. On the bright side, most people seem to be wearing masks; the cashiers are wearing gloves. I have to bag my own groceries, since I use my own reusable bags. All in all, it's not bad ... but I've been making a point of getting there early, when there aren't that many people in the store.

I went to the supermarket today and the cashier had a mask on....under her nose. Ah well.

We can't use reusable bags anymore AND they are giving out plastic bags for free! It's like olden times.

I'm not sure what the HEB here in San Antonio is doing right, but they're basically fully stocked. Not just the meat and produce sections, which makes sense with all the local farms, but they even have toilet paper in! If it weren't for some gaps in the cleaning and pasta sections, you'd almost think things were back to normal...

Except for the safety restrictions: Baskets and carts sanitized after use, plexiglass around the checkout stands, some doors closed off and I THINK there's still a limit to number of people inside, but there hasn't been a line to get in for weeks. On the other hand, no one's even blinked at my reusable bags.....

Today I watched our mailman walk around the neighborhood with his mask down around his chin chewing on a toothpick, and at each house he put the toothpick away and pulled the mask over his mouth and nose. With his gloves. That he also used to pick up the mail. Sigh.

The woman behind the counter at the pharmacy yesterday had her mask on under her nose.

I'm supposed to have a conversation with my manager about my performance review this afternoon. I'm sure he's going to want me to tell him what my goals are and what I want out of my career. Like, do I want to get promoted? I don't know! I don't know anything anymore! I'm just trying to get through today!

I don't see how anyone can do much in the way of advance planning these days. People are working from home while wrangling kids, pets and significant others, as well as the work. We're all trying to get supplies for food and cleaning and worrying about whether we or anyone we care about will get sick. We're worrying about whether we'll have jobs when we can go out again, those of us that still have jobs.

I feel fortunate that I do have a job and I'm getting paid; I've staked out my "needed" territory, since I'm working with our accounting people to get checks deposited.

I am, however ... maybe angry? definitely irked ... by the people who are saying that they plan to re-open, but their staff is making more on unemployment with the added stipend than they make working. To me, this implies that they're not paying their people enough ... and I wonder whether this is the real situation or if they're just assuming.
