Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Despite living alone, I was really feeling like I needed a day without talking to anyone today.

I live with two dogs and somedays I just really need to them to shut the hell up. Today was not one of them. I needed interaction.

My insomnia (which is the can't-fall-asleep variety, rather than the can't-STAY-asleep variety), has come roaring back this week.

Tep, mine phased out for a few solid weeks. Almost as if getting away from the insane of work was more relaxing than Covid. But, oh, it's back. The insomnia is back.

There is a local job that I am super tempted to apply for and have a decent chance of an offer. But I worry that the specific military portion of my job is why I like it sometimes and so maybe it's apples and oranges.

she just said she trusts her gut which doesn't tell me where she gets any info to trust her gut.

Her gut flora and fauna have wicked credentials.

Add-on: The former Public Affairs Officer for this military base was moved and she's doing Quarantinis on Facebook. One, we've become better friends which is great because she's awesome. Two, I want a juice press sooooo badly. Wouldn't this be amazing in my kitchen? Maybe not that specific one but damn I want fresh cocktails.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Not only are the birds louder, I'm also hearing bird calls that I don't normally hear in NYC.

I've been hearing a chickadee call. I used to hear them when I was a kid in KC, but I've never noticed them here.

Now tagless for your comfort.

We do one take out meal a week, for morale. Tonight was Chili's. I thought the server was going to cry when she thanked me for my 25% tip. She said they "really help."

And I just wondered who is NOT tipping well in this shit?

Liv wants to shave her head. I guess this is probably the best time to try it.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I'm growing a COVID beard because I think its hysterical. How fuzzy can my chin get?

Assholes.

You can afford take-out. Tip the fuck out of the people who are risking their lives to serve you.

This has been your public service message for Sunday night. Don't be an asshole.

Our wings are not tired

So many people just don't get it. We got a thank you letter from our gardener because we continue to pay, and we do not expect him to come to the house. Same thing for our house cleaner. We recognize that things may be bad for us, but they are so much worse for so many.

Assholes are definitely the ones not tipping. WTF, people? I ordered out Friday (for only the second time this quarantine) and started to give a 20% tip because that was what it auto-populated, and then was like "oh wait, duh, that's like only $3" and upped it.

I just watched Contagion with some friends over zoom (we each rented it on our TVs, synced up to the same moment and hit play, and then had zoom with earbuds--it worked really well, couldn't hear their TVs, but could hear them and my TV!). But OMG I think I'm going to have nightmares now. Even if it was obviously way worse in that movie, I still worry about a slow motion descent into that madness--and it was very weird hearing all these terms I now know but wouldn't have three four months ago. That said, there was a whole lot of hand shaking and standing close and non-mask wearing that struck me as completely not how reality is going these days! Like, why are these scientists fucking shaking hands?!? LOL

Yikes. My brother-the-ID-doc always said that Contagion was the most realistic of all those pandemic movies.

My brother forwarded this really helpful video about epidemiological modeling. It's very nerdy and not upsetting, but also really informative about the types of public health actions that would actually make a difference.

Me, I took the dog for a run in the park, and did some laundry, paid some bills, made a big batch of oatmeal cookies, and then delivered some to my friend E and my niece. I may walk up to my sister's house tomorrow and give her some as well.

Now I'm reading old Star Trek novels and listening to jazz. Bed soon.

I mean, that's probably compared to a lot of very not-realistic movies, but yeah--most of it was pretty realistic. Except they were way more able to get shit done, in the movie. And handshakes. And no social distancing. And a new vaccine within like, 4 months.
