And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Oh no, Hec. Fingers crossed hard for all of you.

All best thoughts for JZ's father.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Oh no, Hec. Fingers crossed hard for all of you.

Thank you. They were hoping to extubate him today, but he's running a high fever and the lungs are filling up. He's a 79 year old man with emphysema. So...just about the worst possible candidate.

At this point they're worried about permanent damage, including cognitive function even if he does recover. Don't really know yet but this is a very bad turn.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Also, Jessica, can your husband do some of the cooking? Also, how old are your kids? Are they old enough to make simple dishes with adult supervision?

My father wasn't much of a cook, but even he had 3 or 4 things that he could cook in a pinch.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Oh no! Here's hoping they can get JZ's dad through this safely.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, no, dad of JZ! Hoping for the best for him

Job~ma continuing for Mr Dana

askye, I think you do put the end date on NC even though it was a transfer. As far as they are concerned, you stopped one job and started another, even though hit you it was basically moving your job from one place to another.

Taking my temperature one more time...95.9. What is that? Not a fever, in any case. Anyway, I feel icky enough to just take it easy today but will try not taking more NyQuil until tonight because my las round of dreams while I napped were disorienting and confusing.

Current plan: watch Picard, red beans and popcorn, some more Grace & Frankie, eventually soybeans and quinoa for dinner. Not reading my work email. Not worrying about the household chores that are undone. Some cat petting if authorized by feline resources.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Echoing what they said about Dad-JZ!

One thing I think that is happening with the TP 'hoarding' is that a lot of people have no idea how much they'll use because with the suddenly home-bound, who were using other facilities' TP at work and at school for 8-10 hours a day, suddenly you have a household of adults and kids who seem to be running through the stuff so amazingly fast. Same for some of the food, like milk -- all those lunches you ate at the work cafeteria or school add up when added to the weekly food purchases.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I don't think cognitive function is an issue at all--during the few times he's been even a little awake, he's been as sharp as ever. The issue is that his lungs are damaged enough that any recovery is going to be slow and not full, and if there's a catastrophic event like a cardiac arrest they may feel that his physical systems are compromised enough that no good outcome is possible.

His girlfriend feels strongly that he would want everything done as long as there's better than zero chance, and based on what I know of his terror of mortality I don't think she's wrong. I just don't know if the hospital staff will be willing to put themselves at the additional risk that invasive procedures might put them at.

But for right this minute he's stable-ish. Not good, but steady. I need to take a nap.
