I'm tentatively scheduled to be put On Call next week, and I'm about to have a conversation with my manager that essentially boils down to, "Do you want me to quit? Because that's how you get me to quit."
Natter 76: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Foaminess
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Good luck with that, shrift
I am trying knock off early because I worked late yesterday and I'm super tired but I can't stop checking my email just in case. Sigh.
My manager is on it, thankfully.
Timelies all!
It was announced via e-mail that, starting tomorrow, they will be screening everyone who comes into our building. To that end, only 3 entrances will be open, which will mean I have to walk further to get into work.
Yay JZ's Dad!
Today I found out that a seemingly simple change to some pie chart graphics turns out to be deceptively difficult and time-consuming to make. The cynic in me thinks that makes it MUCH more likely the client will love that approach the best and want it applied to hundreds and hundreds of documents.
Man, I feel lucky.
My job? Taking WFH requirements seriously and insisting on distancing for those still at the office!
My city? Establishing stay-at-home policies and shutting down non-essential facilities!
Local grocery stores? Limiting number of people inside, setting up distance markers and cough shields at the register!
Local restaurants? Closing dining areas and improving takeout options even before it's required!
And then I read reports about the rest of the country and I'm like, uhhhh....
Anyway, here's a linkspam of Good Stuff I sent to my sisters family:

Stay safe!
I went to the drug store earlier today to pick up a prescription. There were a somewhat surprising number of people around. Trader Joe's is still only letting a few in at a time, so there was a line, even at 11:30AM.
My roommate's COVID test came back negative, so she's sick with something else. Which is kind of a bummer, because at least if it was COVID she wouldn't still have to worry about getting it and getting even sicker?!
I got way more done today than the past week or so (...which was still not that much. but.)
Elvis Parsley and Dolly Parsnip
No they did not!
YAY for JZ's dad!
Yeah, that sounds like mixed news for your roommate, meara.
News for the distance learning front - I had my first online office hours webconferences today. The first was for my two organic sections at the university (100+ students). One of the showed up for a minute to ask a question, then left, and I wound up spending the rest of the three hours reading a book at my desk with my headphones on. I did get to see a picture of my student's dog, so there is that.
Right now I'm in a lull in my community college section, but I had 5 of 17 students hang out for an hour earlier, so that was fun. I ♥ older students.
Yay JZ's dad!
I love all the animal names.
Hosting the zoom sessions for the faculty who can't share their screen is taking a lot of energy. I have tomorrow off from it, so that is good! I need a break.
I also have one faculty member who is about to drive me around the bend on zoom. She is just meeting with us, but the way she says and interprets things is just so off. She is so nice, but she talks around in circles, is super anxious, and answers not quite the questions asked. We were in two meetings together today and I was ready to jump through the screen and choke her. But she is really a great lady- I think I just miss my old boss who would shut her down and make her cut to the chase, rather than my new maybe boss who wants to give her academic freedom and lead her to the right decision.
Also, Petunia HATES when I am on zoom and jumps on my face.
