So there is restructuring at work -- company wide with corporate lay offs and restructuring/elimination of retail positions.
My job is fine. I was called in to my supervisor's office to "go over changes with Reflixis (our scheduling system)" which is not what usually happens with changes. The first thing my supervisor said was I didn't have to worry so that was good but there are some people who are going to lose their job or lose their full time position.
There are some full time people who had some limited availability prior to changes that required open availability and their availability was grandfathered in but that is stopping. And to bring us in line with every other retail operation part time people have to be available Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday. There are part time people and some full time who don't work Sundays.
They are creating a new part time category called flex. So regular part time people will get a minimum of 12 hours a week and flex part time will be on call with no minimum hours.
And they are changing how the scheduling is done so that the stores have less control over it but they are doing away with the weird 2 hour minimum shift length for part time people and also full time people will work a minimum of 6 hour shifts and only work 2 closing shifts per week with part time people.
Apparently they are trying to address not just staffing issues but the scheduling weirdness that happens so full time people end up working 4 closing shifts some week or are routinely schedule close/open shifts. I usually get stuck with 3 of those a month.
And then they are also going to be moving people to different departments. I know there are some departments where it seems everyone is full time and then some area like plus size clothes where it's only part time people. But those conversations are happening next week.
I am not thrilled with all these changes but having consistency with part time people will be nice.
