Well, I was never in much pain. After I face-planted onto a metal rail, I said to myself, "Oof, that's going to leave a mark". It was only after I touched my face and saw the blood on my hands that I realized I had to go get stitches.
Still, it stressed me out more than I wanted to admit to myself, so even after I got home I didn't get much sleep. Today I'm tired and depressed and sad and the sutures on my face aren't exactly subtle, and I have a black eye.

Oh,man, Tom! Falling sucks! I fell on my face on my my front walk in November and still have a lump on my forehead. I had a nasty black eye for weeks (also it hurt like hell).

And a friend of mine here in Somerville is just now considered recovered from a concussion that she got slipping on the ice last winter. So any fall you don't get worse than a couple stitches is a good fall!
