Aren't they something. They're like butterflies, or little pieces of wrapping paper blowing around.

Casper confessed to me this morning that she now felt guilty about the year she chose to dress as a 'hobo' for Halloween, because it was insensitive to the struggles of people experiencing poverty or homelessness. (She was 8; I decided she was too young to bring it up at the time, but I'm proud she can see it now.)

She's going through a sassy as hell and quarrelsome phase, but the kid is pretty fundamentally all right.

Our wings are not tired.

Aww, what are the kids going as this year?

I asked Tate if they were doing the adorbs spidey costumes they wore last year and she said no, but didn't tell me what the plan was.

I am super untogether and will just be kinda hippie chick dressed.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Tough one, meara. Backchannel does seem like a good idea, maybe with liberal applications of "I'm sure you didn't mean to..."

Which of your many costumes is this, Epic?

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I'm dressing up as an unnerving governess who's a vampire. So, my regular daily wear with heavier makeup and my fangs.

Nice - governess that is DEFINITELY a vampire rather than governess that is just probably a vampire, then?

My kids have both aged out of Halloween. But this will be the first year in ages we've been home to hand out candy, and there are several families with adorable littles on our block!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

But this will be the first year in ages we've been home to hand out candy, and there are several families with adorable littles on our block!

Even in years when the weather is great, we only get maybe 30 kids for trick-or-treating. But with this rain, I'll be surprised if we get any. Tim is going to be taking a lot of Skittles and Starburst to work tomorrow. (We're both cutting way back on sugar, for different reasons, so we finally started buying Halloween candy that we don't like, so that we won't devour the leftovers.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm doing a band thing at an outdoor event whose theme is apparently haunted ghost town or something -- I'm going to have to decide if it's warm enough to wear (just) my old Cowgirl Jesse suede jacket.
