No pie making here. JZ is making spanakopita.
We'll be going to her dad's house today for Thanksgiving, and I will cook a separate one for us on Friday.
I've already made the vegetarian mushroom gravy that I was requested to bring. It's really good! (and vegan actually)
We have to take BART to the East Bay where Emmett will pick us up and drive us to FiL's house. Do Thanksgiving there with the extended family (all JZ's sibs and kids are in town, plus her mom). Then Emmett will drive us back to SF and spend the night with us and we'll do it again tomorrow.
I'm excited about the menu we're putting together for tomorrow. We'll have turkey, salmon and roast beef on the table (smaller critters, but stuff that everybody can eat and like). Brussels sprouts with pomegranate molasses/sherry vinegar glaze. Mushroom stew in puff pastries. A small salad with endive and pears.
Trying to have less starch on the table (which is hard with mashed potatoes, stuffing and mac and cheese), more protein and greens.
EM is bringing over the homemade pies and I get a cherry pie this year, which is my favorite.
taking phone calls in a rom with the tv on is one of my giant peeves. Mute exists and so do cordless/mobile phones - use technology to be considerate.
I hope work is not too bad, askye. I am sorry you have to work at all today. And good for getting rid of clutter.
Askye- I dealt with the guilt thing of getting rid of usable stuff by thinking about how happy the stuff might be with someone else. I was also frantic and just threw usable stuff out, and that was OK too.
Also, do you maybe have a coworker who loves loud chaos? When I worked retail, there was one woman who liked to fold and organize in the next department over, and we would sort of trade off- she would fold and organize my area, and I would deal with her chaotic customers. I am not sure if stores are staffed enough to allow this now
SJ- I hope you have an asthma attack free day!
JZ- my perfect manager really appreciate my grateful post on Facebook? We are doing all sorts of machinations right now to keep me at the higher pay grade, but get me back reporting you her instead of dotted line getting my work from her. For me the thing that matters in work happiness isn't so much the work, it is the boss. So that is to say a note, or a note shared with her bosses might be very nice.
Timelies all!
Happy Thanksgiving, US buffistas!
Happy Ritual Sacrifice With Pie Day, Sheryl!
Happy Thanksgiving! I slept in, brought some cookies I baked last night to my neighbor and chatted with her a bit and checked out her house--she's the mirror image of my place, but I hadn't been in to see how she had arranged it (which blew my mind how different it looked even though in a lot of ways we have a similar setup/stuff). Then I boxed up the brownies I had made, the pie is in the fridge, and I baked the rest of the cookie dough (still can't figure out why it's not like it should be, but it still tastes fine--too much brown sugar maybe? Or something?). Now chilling a bit with some marzipan stollen from TJ's, and then to shower, assemble green bean casserole, and head to my friend's house!
Yes. Happy Thanksgiving!
I still can't quite get used to it being this late. I go to Maria's and it starts at 3. My family eats Thanksgiving at noon!
askye - unused yarn and other crafts stuff can go to senior centers and like facilities, if that would assuage any guilt.
We are spending our Thanksgiving traveling to Argentina. It's only a 3 hour flight from Sao Paulo (our home city), but with a 2 hour drive on one end, a 1 hour cab ride on the other, two passport controls, buying Argentinian SIM cards, and emergency airport McDonald's it is still a 12 hour travel day. But we are almost to our AirBNB and Buenos Aires is gorgeous, even from the cab.
How cool, Gris!
I was very snappish at lunch, both friends getting way more on my nerves than they should. I am able to muster lots of patience with my residents, who have the excuse of much greater age than my friends, but honestly both of them are bundles of dysfunctions these days.
I think I need to go play some calming computer games until I'm ready for direct human interaction again.
