TCG and I started The Expanse this week. I’m not loving it so far, but I know a lot of people here loved it. So, I’m hoping it will grow on me
'Our Mrs. Reynolds'
Boxed Set, Vol. VI: I am not a number, I am a free thread!
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
It does grow, I think. I wasn't the biggest fan of Miller, so that was a bit of a roadblock.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of his either.
I watched with two people who hadn't read the books so I had to struggle to not continuously give backstory or say 'but they did it this way in the book'; it was tough.
I started reading the books after I saw the series so that has been interesting to compare and contrast.
The Miller part isn't as interesting, I think things move along better without him.
I still haven't seen the last series. I could probably be ok watching it visually but I haven't tried. I kinda don't want it to end.
I did watch past of Altered Carbon...although there was quite a bit of looking away during flashing lights and stuff. I have been bad lately about correctly identifying actors in certain roles so I was surprised I got what his name from BSG and the guy who played Bobo on Wynnona Earp had the same look so that wasn't hard to pick him out.
I haven't read the latest Expanse story because when I do it will really all be over. So I get that.
Trying to remember how I felt about the early episodes, I think it took a while to really grab me. Miller was never my favorite, no.
I read the first book recently and there was some kind of afterword in there that described Miller's part of the story as noir, which helped me put him in context.
I liked the entity masquerading as Miller better than the actual Miller, I'm pretty sure. I wanted to like him because of the Noir thing and some of his qualities that *ought* to be appealing but his obsession with Julie really turned me off.
Miller bothered me more in the series than the books. I found him more sad and tragic in the books and more annoying in the series. Not at all pleased that the series apparently will never conclude as the books did. So much of the Laconia story was compelling to me, but apparently too costly to produce.
Yeah I totally get that they were going for a Raymond Chandler noir type character, which is usually right up my alley, but it doesn’t work for me here. I’ll probably read the books after.
