OMG, I just realized half the problem -- she's constantly walking through my spare bedroom, because that's how she walks through her apartment, but I use it for storage and it is a shithole in there. Oyyyyy.

It's hard, but I've mostly made my peace with it. Mainly I so acutely feel for anyone else faced with these decisions with their parents. I was trying to cope with this when I wasn't even out of my 30s. There is no way to know if you are making good decisions.
Steph, I hope that everything plays out in the best possible way for your FiL.
I have a question for the swimmers among us. I ordered this [link] two piece suit and recieved it today. The bottom part fits perfectly but the top is not snug, a bit loose. Given that pants I order to fit my hips (because what else can I do) are often loose at the waist, it isn't surprising. But will I be able to get in the pool and do an aqua-Zumba class without the top floating up? Should I try to take it in a bit? It doesn't look particularly snug on the model, but then she is not moving vigorous in the water.
Yay, I don't have to report for jury duty service on Monday! One day down, four more days of uncertainty to go next week.
I'm lucky that my parents and my grandmother are doing okay, healthwise. I have wondered if I will eventually need to move nearer to them though.
it has awakened the temptation for me to daub the lintels of my cubicle with fake blood for Passover.
I would laugh.
I am sitting in my office listening to the first preview of King of the Yees, a comic fever-dream story that takes place in SF Chinatown. I can also hear Destiny of Desire in the other theatre which is a tele-novela musical. Trying to read Ah, Wilderness is not going well.
OK, I was talking to my mother today about sewing, and I said something about tying the thread to the needle once you put it through the eye, and she looked at me like I had said something so crazy she wasn't even sure she understood it. Is this not a thing that other people do when they're sewing? Or is she the crazy one for not tying her thread to the needle?
I....have never done that. Though I also don't do a ton of hand sewing?
How do you tie a thread to the needle?
I have never tied a thread to the needle.
WHAT. How do you keep the thread on the needle, then? Wouldn't it just slip out after every stitch? (And where did I learn to do it this way, if nobody else sews like this?)
