Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I've run out of articles to read about how Trump and the Republicans fucked up. Now I'm sad.
Timelies all!
Another quiet Sunday here.
Happy anniversary, billytea and Biyi! You are both proof of incredible mammalian happiness. I'm so happy you found your person.
Emily!
Sara, your living room may look like a murder scene, but mine currently is incubating enough fur to make two additional cats. The desire to pull out the vacuum is non-existent, though it's a perfect day for it. Cold and gray here, so all I want to do is curl up on the couch and watch bad tv.
Happy anniversary, Billytea!
I'm feeling a little less financially strained right now and allowed my sister to talk me into getting new ski boots. Which is a whole different experience than buying any other kind of shoes, let me tell you. It took me 3.5 hours (which included a visit to the tacqueria around the corner for a tostada and a margarita while the molds cooled), and I spent a lot of time with a friendly tattooed boot fitter fondling my feet.
When we were done, I spent less than I expected to. So I went to the winery around the corner and bought too much wine. Whooops.
Now I need to clean the house in preparation for vacation on Wednesday, when I have a 5:30 AM flight. Yikes. The down side of vacation is those last few days it's SO HARD to concentrate.
I'm really looking forward to this ski trip, especially since I'll be offline and unable to follow politics. On the other hand, I'll be offline and unable to follow politics!
In those five days, all of western civilization could collapse! Or what if Sessions and Flynn get indicted! What if Nunes blurts out all his classified material on live television! What if Bannon opens his head to reveal he's actually a lizardman from late-60s Doctor Who? ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
What if Bannon opens his head to reveal he's actually a lizardman from late-60s Doctor Who?
There's a surprising dearth of lizardmen in late 60s Doctor Who. Indeed, I think the only contender would be the Ice Warriors from Mars. But in January 1970, just one month out, we get the Silurians. These were prehistoric lizardmen who woke from a long sleep to find their homeland overrun by creatures of a different race (humans), and set about trying to destroy them. There's a workable analogy in there somewhere. The main sticking point is that the Silurians were intended to be sympathetic - they could be reasoned with, and some of them were willing to pursue peace.
Ultimately for the embodiment of a hate-filled obsession with racial purity in Doctor Who, you really can't go past the Daleks. The original and best.

And if the logical end to this reasoning is stuffing Steve Bannon into a trashcan and hot-glueing a toilet plunger to his face, who could object?

My only objection would be that I'd really want to hot-glue the business end of the toilet plunger to his face, and speaking as a purist that's not quite an accurate representation.
Ha!
So for the first time ever, I filled out a NCAA bracket for an office pool this year. After the 2nd round I was in 4th place. I just got a text message saying I've clinched 2nd place. I picked North Carolina to win. The jock types are going to be so pissed if I win this.
I have achieved a new power steering pump and a new accessory belt. I figured I might as well replace the belt while I was at it, but it needed to be replaced from my examination after getting the old one off. Unfortunately, while I was working on the car, I saw my brake pads are looking pretty thin so I've got some more work ahead in a bit.
