I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Cars: I've been looking into the Subaru Impreza lately. Mostly because I've been thinking of moving to a lake-effect snow area, which may change. But still, the 2017 looks like it might be worth a test drive.

Feud: Bette and Joan. I haven't seen anything about it, but I've really been enjoying it.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Oh, my god, I just unpacked one of the remaining boxes which has been hiding under other stuff, and it's full of stuff. Knickknacks. Crap. We used to have a curio cabinet where we could put all of that stuff, but we got rid of it, and have not yet been successful in getting rid of the stuff.

I also found our blender in another box. We thought it was already in a cabinet.

I haven't driven a recent Impreza, but I've been in one and it seemed like a pretty nice car.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I am kind of ready to buy a car- I feel like my mother is getting to old for me to not be mobile- but I literally have no idea how to do so. I have only ever bought a car from a) my friend's father's car dealership in high school and college and b) my small town mechanic, with a loan from my former manager who went to work at a bank.

I have no idea how to navigate care buying a) as an introvert who hates being sold things b) without a car to get to the car dealership or trade in and c) not in a small town where I know people.

I would go back to that same dealership if it still existed, but my friend's father retired (and his dealership was eaten up by big dealerships and closed anyway).

ETA: What would be ideal is for my mom to give me her car, but that will not happen even though she really can't drive any more. I thought she lost her license because my aunt had been driving her to shop, but she drove down to the post office the other day.

I'd suggest using the Internet as your guide to car buying. truecar.com can give you a good idea of a fair price to a new car. For used cars I like to shop with autotrader.com so I can compare prices on the Internet rather than going off what's on the lot. It's easy to see what a fair price is for your area.

There is also CarMax which is a chain of big used car places that have no haggling and prices that are acceptable though you won't get the best deals there.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

My friend Miriam (who used to be on the board back in the TT days) spent over a year trying to decide if she should replace her old Prius with a new one or with a new Subaru.

She liked the Subaru for its all-wheel-drive, but then she found out that a 2-wheel-ddive car with snow tires will have better traction in the snow than a 4-wheel-drive car without snow tires. Also, she could not get the Subaru with the options she wanted but without leather (she's vegan).

I have never liked Prius's because the interior is so noisy, but the loaded '17 Prius she bought is so much quieter and smoother-riding than even a 2016 she test-drove.

Will car dealerships take a big chunk of cash and then finance the rest? Or is it a situation of, if it's legal tender they'll do whatever it takes to get it?

I'm always boggled by the car ads that say "Only 299 a month!" Who has $299 a month laying spare in their budget?

Our wings are not tired.

It would be good if you could work out something with your mother, Sophia. Is she considering not driving anymore? How far away from you is she?

I think the new Kia Niro is kinda interesting with Prius-like mileage for a little less money and a SUV like body for nice utility. Not that I'm planning to replace my 10 year old Ford Focus with 212,000 miles anytime soon.

Yes.
