Well some friends of Buffy played a funny joke and they took her stuff and now she wants us to help get it back from her friends who sleep all day and have no tans.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I know that we're hearing stories about repentant Trump voters, but I'm wondering how much his support is eroding with his base--if it is at all. People who voted because they think a Muslim registry is a great idea, who think cities are all gang-infested slums, who think they're poor because those immigrants are coming over the border and taking their jobs and having babies on welfare--I would assume they're hearing about Trump's actions and cheering. State Department leadership resigning en masse? Fewer federal bureaucrats living high on their tax dollars. Scientists not allowed to talk about climate change? Why should we pay them to spout Chinese propaganda and drive up gas prices?

Basically, I think that die hard Trump voters live in a bubble that won't be permeated by reality until their parents' SS checks stop coming and the factories that Trump brings back to the US (if any) refuse to hire them because prison labor and robots are cheaper.

brillig

True believers will not be converted. I'm hoping the ones who shrugged and said "There's no real difference between them" or "He's just saying stuff, he's not going to do it" are rethinking things.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Well, Medicare and Medicaid cuts should start sinking in at some point.

I feel like we should have a betting pool as to what will happen next with Trump. We've had "Pushes through executive orders to give Republicans a stiffy" and "yells at media for being mean" and "ridiculous and incorrect anecdote that justifies voter surpression."

I'd lay some money on "Trump starts firing people out of pique."

Fuck them. They got us here. I'm voting them off the island. Fuck 'em all.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Those are the ones I most want to punch.

The only thing that will make any difference is if the Republicans in the House and Senate take a stand. Some of them might be influenced by their constituents, many not at all.

I read recently that in terms of calls to Reps, Republican callers are generally about 4 - 1 v Dems, 11 - 1 if it's an issue the right cares about. This is part of why they've developed the knee-jerk instinct to jump right at every opportunity. (Some are true believers, others maybe weren't from the get go and now are.)

This is just one part of the issue, but it's one we can potentially impact.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I'd lay some money on "Trump starts firing people out of pique."

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I was thinking more of his advisors/wranglers. But sure! Who needs experience in the State Department?

Also the US Chief of Border Patrol. He was in the same situation where he "resigned" in a way that is code for "was forced out."

I am currently the embodiment of the This Is Fine dog.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Ack, I had to get away from FB because it's wall to wall Trumplian outrage, and it's here too.

Not that I blame anybody for talking about it.

But it's hashing my mellow. Living in Trump's America is stressing me out daily.

I suppose I should work.

Yeah, I expect he said "That's not going to work" within earshot of a Trump person.

And since we don't have a secretary of commerce, I hear Trump will be negotiating trade deals with PM May in the UK. Given his many bankruptcies, I expect we'll be singing God Save the Queen within six months.

Actually, that looks like a best case scenario.
