I feel the same way, for the same reasons, about the early days of the Highlander series.
I just saw an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where Picard is captured and tortured. The Cardassian keeps trying to make Picard say there were five lights shining when there were clearly only four. I think the idea was that once you were trained to disbelieve the truth you could see on orders of a controlling power, they could make you do anything they wanted. Seems timely.
