Yes, I only have officemates for 2-3 days a week, but I have one who 'hilariously' shares with me a horrid racist Baltimore map composed by a clueless white dude labeling vast swaths The Wire* , hipsters, scary mall, Botox, etc, and my response? Lemme show you the redlining maps going back decades. And the placement of things like zipcar and the bike rentals. And the transit line cancellations. And let me ask you, how did you think that map happened and what it says about the creator and fans? Make you feel good to live in 'botoxed housewives'?

I'm humorless on this topic, best learn early, self described bubba from NJ.

* Sonja Sohn, from The Wire, and her cast mates have championed Baltimore endlessly. She's even got a documentary in the works. And Simon is a defender as well. So not on them.

{{sarameg}} It sucks when you encounter such ignorance. I believe most of us are worthwhile humans, but I do tend to bubble pretty effectively.

My first 18 years were spent in a liberal NE bubble. Although I watched the 60s TV the racism wasn't real because my family and neighbors never behaved this way. When I moved to Virginia it was nothing short of horrifying for me. I don't know whether it was worse that people said the things they said, or believed the things they said. I mean it was worse that they believed it, but it would have been better for me personally if they didn't say it!

For the most part I got along well with my neighbors and co-workers because I am non-combative, but not shy about speaking my mind either. Driving out to lunch with one of my co-workers he casually said something absurdly racist about a woman walking down the street and I was so stunned I just let him have it. Later I realized that I didn't attack the racist statement itself, but rather why he would ever think I would let him get away with saying something like that in my presence. No, I didn't have control over what he thought, but he damned well better not say it in front of me.

IObigotryN, the school my cousin's children attend was one of 30 Jewish schools targeted with bomb threats. Her heartbreak over the end of innocence for her children as she had to explain the unexplainable is something no parent should have to endure. [link]

Why did we decide it would make most sense to leave for Canada at 630am? I don't even usually get UP until 7? Or after, because I hit snooze?

Really, you don't need to flee the country until tomorrow.
