Quiet day here. Got to listen to President Obama talk, which always pleasant. I should be productive, and yet.

I have too many meetings and not enough desire to do work in between them. Hilariously, I'm interviewing an internal candidate, but it doesn't seem like HR knows he is internal? She came to escort him from one room to another, but he definitely knows his own way!
So, the mass shooting two blocks away from my work was actually the "easy" part of yesterday (because it was over before we found out about it, and while upsetting, did not require any action on my part.) The hard part of yesterday was that heavy rains on Wednesday night caused flooding (in part due to a clogged roof drain) in our public meeting rooms and book stacks. The emergency staff, including my boss, were at work Weds. night until 11pm, and we have been triaging and drying books, with the help of Preservation and staff from other departments, ever since. It is slow and depressing. And there are forecasts for heavy rain all weekend, and it's unclear whether or not the issues that caused the flooding have been fixed, and while it seems like the first 12 hours of this crisis went well it feels like balls are being dropped now, and I'm worried. Like, I just asked, "will anyone be monitoring the flooded areas for new water coming on overnight Saturday and Sunday before we open?" and the answer was "...".
Oh no, flea. That's distressing.
Oh, you're right, flea, that is worrisome.
Oh dear, flea. That is awful.
Well, I had a 7th grader tell me "fuck you" today. I had a great few classes at the start of the day, even got told I was a couple of kids' favorite teacher. My last two classes were crazy. The Dean came to my 6th period class at my request and talk tough to them. It helped for a while, but then it got loud again. 7th and last class a girl called another girl a "ho" for asking five guys out in a row (These are 12 year olds so the whole dating thing is pretty nebulous). I got that calmed down and she apologized. Then a kid who has an outburst problem turned around and said something to her which sounded like it might be "fucking loud mouth" but I was at the other side of the room. I went to him and spoke to him and he swore he said "freaking" as did all the kids in the vicinity. I told him not to use that word either, as it was too easy to mistake for the other word. There was another outburst towards the girl and I told him he had to leave her alone and be still, which is when he said "fuck you'" to me. I told him I had to send him to the dean, and he said he was leaving. I stood in front of the door and told, him I was going to write him up. He accused me of shoving him, but calmed down a bit. I wrote him up and he went to the office. Oy.
After school, I had a meeting with the Vice Principal and she said in future I should just let the kid leave and call the office to let them know. I shouldn't have stood in his way and I hope his father doesn't think I shoved his son. I am so sad and upset about this, I can't tell you guys.
Ugh, Scrappy. I am sorry. I don't know if I would last a day. Teachers are surely angels walking this earth.
Timelies all!
Tomorrow I take the cats in to the vet for their annual checkup. Which means another round of "chasing the Luna", with added toddler. This will be interesting...
So literally herding cat(s)?
