Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh yeah, absolutely -- logical sense, impossible to casually follow. (Never mind 34th Place, etc!)

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

(Manhattan has the same problem, but only for a few streets because the Ave numbers don't go up that high! And that bit in the Village where the streets start to get squished and out of alignment.)

Our wings are not tired.

Where I am in Florida is very grid compliant. People also give directions with turn north/south/east/west instead of right and left because you always know what direction you are facing.

Today is the very opposite of relaxing! Been on dozens of phone calls and haven't had lunch yet. Getting grumpy. Going to let it go to voicemail for a bit.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I was once helping a tourist from Belgium find her way around DC. She was VERY impressed with the fact that the numbers and letters ran in order and were fairly logical (since she was from a city that was founded much earlier). Of course, she was also absolutely ENCHANTED that there was a McDonalds right nearby ....

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I grew up in New Orleans. I don't think we believe in straight lines.

I'm watching One Day at a Time, and Schneider is wearing his t-shirt in a French tuck.

In Utah we navigate by the mountains. "Go towards the mountains, then turn left."

I refuse to take Schneider as a guide for anything.

Thrive to spite them

The very original downtown of Tallahassee is on a grid. The rest is spoke and wheel and what looks like street planning while high.

information libertarian

In funky name news, I was just on a conference call with a Parker Pogue (male), who is going to have Ren Diamond get in touch with us.

Ann, that's a ferret.

A river ran through the middle of the town where I grew up. The street map was fairly grid-like when you were away from the river, except for the occasional diagonal street. Less grid-like near the river, and Riverside Drive just followed the river.

Connie - I grew up in El Paso, Texas, where we also did the "go towards the mountains" thing. Then I moved to Austin (when it was still small) and it was all about "toward the UT tower" or "toward the capital". Then I moved to Amarillo and it was totally flat, I had to learn about N/S/E/W and it was very confusing.
