Thanks to current media's depiction of Vikings, I was SUPER surprised to learn the average height of a male Viking was 5'7" (and 5'3" for women).
My husband is 1 inch taller than a Viking.

I'm Viking-sized! Suddenly my Halloween costume (#3 for those of you that followed along on FB) is that much more authentic!
And it was pretty easy and quick! Cleaning up the powdered sugar was maybe the hardest part.
I was skeptical when I read "buttercream" but mascarpone with sugar and cream and ginger sounds delicious.

Wasn't everybody shorter back then? I still don't know if it means they towered over people or not.
As far as historical BAMFs go, I'm partial to the Scythians. Herodotus wrote about how they would drink from skulls of their enemies, and there is archeological evidence to back this up. Also, around 10% of the graves they find of are women, fully decked out in warrior garb.
