I felt I had no choice but to reject the moaners on my Nextdoor group that keep complaining about fireworks and how unfair they are to pets and people with PTSD. Fireworks are not going away, people. Been using them for celebration for a very long time and will continue to do so for a long time into the future. If people are freaked out they have really nice noise canceling headsets out there. I just dosed Zoe with Benadryl and gave her a peanut butter jar to occupy her until she falls asleep. I give it early enough that she is really out then try and play something louder than usual on the television. It just seems to me that if the fireworks are that much of an issue to you then you have a choice to alter your behavior or situation, but you really can't change the existence of fireworks on various holidays.
Rant over. For now. I reserve the option to rant about something else later.
I would definitely consider portmanteau
Challenge accepted, Donna.
The problem is, I definitely have known someone D-a-n-a pronounced Donna!
I will never be happy with someone thinking Kony is an acceptable way of spelling my name.

Well, that is HER PROBLEM.
Interesting to hear others' stories. Mr. thumbs is sort of a third of his name (complicated), so he's not changing it. Hawaii won't let you add a married or middle name as part of the free change with marriage that wasn't somewhere in one of the spouses' previous names. You also can't go to no middle name if you had one before.
We have achieved asleep dog! I have Captain America playing for background noise so she has a variety of noise. But she is out.
Laura, those are fair points as long as the fireworks are limited to the specific day of celebration.
edit: I will allow an exception for putting municipal/official fireworks displays on a weekend when the holiday doesn't fall on the weekend.
Huh. I had no idea there were all those rules.
While I was pondering calling my mom to tell her I didn't really want to go hike and see fireworks like we had sort of planned, she called to tell me she didn't feel like it. So that worked out.
