I'm not going on vacation for six weeks and I'm still counting down.

8 weeks for me, and YES. I keep checking a beach webcam.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I have about 10 weeks until vacation. Which on the one hand is too long but on the other I only have 10 weeks to get in shape for backpacking, yikes!

3 days to 4-day weekend, though, so that's good.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Three weeks till Vegas and the skywalk over the Grand Canyon!

That's my plan in six weeks! But not the Skywalk, the other tour.

Skywalk over the Grand Canyon?? Oh god they'd have to pay me to do that. A LOT of money.

Does anyone have a good solution to how phones and phone contracts work now? Just a couple of years ago it was possible to get a free couple-of-models old iphone with a 2 year service contract (this was how I got my iphone 5 three years ago). Now even for an iphone SE (which is ooooold) they want $15 a month for 2 years for the phone. There are no free phones. Casper (14) has left phones on a bus twice (1 recovered) and dropped phones in the toilet twice (1 semi-ressurected but has no sound, so actually talking on the phone is impossible for her right now) in the two years she's had a phone. Dillo (11) gets a phone to head to high school next year, and I figure we can sort of expect the same user behavior. What are the best options in terms of balancing cheap with "cool enough that the child will not nag me to death about it"? Are the used ones from the carriers good? How about the private resale market?

Does it have to be an iPhone? A Moto E is both cheap and tough. My daughter has a Moto G (the new Es are pretty similar to her older G) and it's been dropped countless times without any problems. I've had a G for longer and it's held up to my drops as well.

Casper wants an iphone. She currently has an ancient Samsung (maybe a G2?) inherited from my mother, but before she killed it she had mr. flea's old iphone 4.

The E4 could work for Dillo, though. But availability with our existing service (Verizon) seems a little weird.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

It does remain kind of charming when the French speakers on a conference call say "Blah blah blah." It's more like "bluh bluh bluh", and I imagine it's accompanied by a Gallic handwave.

Casper wants an iphone.

It might be cheaper to buy an iPhone from, say, Best Buy (make sure it's compatible with your carrier) and then have Verizon activate it. That's what I did with my iPhone SE.
