In totally not relevant to anyone news, I picked up a package of "Poor Boy" sandwiches from WinCo last night because it was 3 sandwiches for 3 dollars and I was curious. They're not bad! No po'boys by any means, but they aren't really claiming to be.

I ran into a little, um, financial situation a while ago (nothing dire). When my mother died in 2014, seemingly she left a moderate fund - intended as an annuity? - for me. My sister sent me the necessary paperwork and I filed the information with the company, along with my address, contact info, etc., and asked to have them hold it for five years (in early 2015 since I expected to still be working that long). About a month ago, my sister forwarded something from the company to me, along with a rather terse note asking me to have them send things to my address.
Turns out that for the past few years, they've been sending all communication to my mother (who's dead) at her old address (where my sister lives). The information says that there's a required minimum withdrawal, annually, or else the IRS can take up to half that required minimum. I got in touch with the company and asked if they had sent the information because I'd turned 65 ... but no, seemingly the required minimum kicked in when my mother (who's dead) turned 65 and that the fund was tied to the age of the owner (my mother who, I repeat, is dead).
So ... for the past couple of years, the IRS has been taking the money, since I never received the information. I asked my office's financial person about this since, if I take the annual withdrawal, I'll be responsible for taxes on it. He advised that I roll it over into my current retirement account ... which I'm getting the paperwork for.
I'm just concerned that if they send a check, it would be made out to my mother, since she's the owner. sigh ....
