Keto when you're actually in full-on ketosis at all times is a lot more restricted than what a lot of what's called keto these days, is. Not even a huge amount of protein in that.

I do ket o for the diabetes, but I do eat veggies, although not a lot of them at a time and always with lots of fat. Cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini are the mainstays for me.

I stumbled upon it searching for something to eat that didn't raise my blood sugar (I test 2 hours after every meanl). I wouldn't recommended as a lifestyle of a weight loss diet because it is too restrictive if you don't want to cook. Also, to stay in ketosis you sort of have to obsessively track your food intake, which is annoying, but I was doing it anyway for The diabetes, which is how I realized that it I ate a lot of fat, my blood sugar didn't spike.

The challenge is trying to eat enough fat to keep your macros right, and I am having some trouble right now because I've gone off eggs and bacon. Oddly, my cholesterol went from very high to normal.

I have a weird relationship with ket o because it really does help me, and I am glad there are all the resources, but I hate talking about diets and weight loss which has been a challenge, since I visibility weight. I was a fat acceptance girl in my mind, so losing weight felt like betraying my ideals but I am so much less tired. Like, I just thought it was normal to get home from work and pretty much to go sleep. But that wasn't the keto, it was just not having blood sugar in the 300s all the time. Also, I hate being small, I feel like a who in Horton Hears a Who No one sees me or hears me. I don't take up space in the world.

To sum up, I don't think keto is for everyone, but if you are careful about nutrition and have certain health issues it is helpful- I think Atropa does it for different issues. Definitely not for everyone, and as I said I am in a bit of a crisis since I let myself have some potato chips- I don't do moderation I think since I am done with theater for the year.

In terms of greens, when I go out I tend to get a salad with steak or a hamburger, and hopefully avocado and blue cheese. It looks like I don't like veggoies, but I just don't like salad and most restaurants don't serve things on cooked spinach or cauliflower, so it s the best option.

Meat, cheese, and a handful of greens sounds like induction-phase Atkins before the diet allows you to start escalating carbs back up to a break-even plateau. I can handle it for a few weeks since the meat and cheese helps satisfy my craving for savory breads, but it's hell for anyone with a sweet tooth.

I don't think keto is for everyone, but if you are careful about nutrition and have certain health issues it is helpful

I have one friend who follows a strict keto diet to prevent seizures. She's also lost about 90 pounds on the diet, but she said that she doesn't want to lose any more weight, so it just means she has to eat more food, as long as it fits her specific keto needs. I believe she said that she hasn't had a seizure in 18 months, which is fantastic for her.

I think I have to figure out how to be a smallish person who still has a big personality. But even on the bus, people practically sit on me now! I really don't want to lose more weight, but although I have slowed down, I am at about 75 pounds and it hasn't stopped, just slowed down. I was so secure in my identity as a fat girl, but it feels ridiculous in this privileged world to be sad about it. I am not tall or big boned, so now I am just small. ( or rather medium)

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I am very sick with a flu or something--nothing like starting the day by leaping out of the shower to vomit. Bleargh.

In good news, the big bushy plant near our driveway is a lilac! We moved here at the end of Fall, so it was past blooming time. I am very excited! No lilacs in California.
