Librarian Warlord

My daughter just told me a test was postponed because half her class is out with flu. Yikes, I am terrified now.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Everyone, go get your flu shot if you haven't already.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I feel moderately lousy from this sinus infection, but then I read about the flu just getting out of hand, and I think, okay, I got the better deal on that one. (I got my flu shot in October.)

Except birthdays for you and Pix!!

Birthday for Pix, mine isn't until April.

Video conference call was very good, looks like more work with one of the clients I really like.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

We got our flu shots in October too. By "we" I mean residents and some of the staff and myself. A few days ago, one of the residents started sneezing and coughing. I started coughing a couple days ago. No fevers. I figured it was just a nasty cold. But today the day program called me to come get the person, because she was so sick. I won't go into details, you can imagine. I took her to the ER and she tested positive for influenza. While I was waiting for her discharge orders, I called my own primary care NP and asked for Tamiflu, too. By gum, that diabetes diagnosis is handy; they don't give out Tamiflu to "healthy" people, but she hooked me up fast.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Last night Gary and I got a babysitter for Mr. S, and went to a great concert. The performer, Beth Patterson, is someone we've seen many times, and always enjoy. She's a Cajun/Celtic musician who plays bouzouki, and is a character, in the best way. In addition to traditional music and her own compositions, she covered an Ozzy Osbourne song, and did a duet with her partner- Tom Sawyer played on harmonium and bouzouki.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Oh, I love her. She's from New Orleans, and she used to play at the late and lamented O'Flahery's pub in the Quarter. Before she did solo stuff, she was in a band called The Poor Clares, which did more traditional Celtic stuff.

So it appears sarameg's Family Circus is visiting Iceland this July! Mom's really been bit by the travel bug.

Happy birthdays, maria & pix!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Help me, travel gurus: I'm planning a trip for this summer, and I can get a good price going, but not coming back. Is it insane to buy a one-way ticket and hope I can do better coming back, or is it just already too late to get a cheap ticket on a Sunday in the summer?
