Oh, no! I've worked with him. Man, Steppenwolf Theatre has been hit with a lot of loss the last year or so.
Just found Steppenwolf's post.
It is with our deepest sorrow that we share the news that ensemble member of 39 years John Mahoney passed away due to complications from cancer while in hospice care on Sunday. John was a beloved member of our Steppenwolf family who was known for his extraordinary kindness, generosity of spirit and quick smile. He performed in more than 30 Steppenwolf productions—from his breakthrough role in ORPHANS in 1985 to most recently THE REMBRANDT this past September. John's impact on this institution, on Chicago theatre, and the world of arts and entertainment is great and will endure. Our hearts go out to John and his family, and to our collective Steppenwolf family.
Tonight's opening night performance of YOU GOT OLDER has been cancelled. We are instead inviting all to gather in Front Bar this evening. All are welcome to join us.
I really loved him in Moonstruck, too.
He was great in The Broken Hearts Club as well, though of course Martin Crane was his defining role.
Thank you Java. Either that is working or the pain is getting better. I think I somehow got an infection where the novacaine was injected, as my two sorest point are the injection sites, and then my cheek is swollen. Neither dentist has given me antibiotics yet, but that part seems to be getting better, and the tooth has stopped hurting much.
I loved Broken Hearts Club!
I got up this morning to feed the cats (working 4pm-11pm so no need to be awake for more than a few minutes) and got myself all dressed up thinking I would go work out then go back to bed. It is thirteen below out there. I ain't going nowhere.

I was going to say that a few years ago, when I needed a root canal and had to wait, my dentist gave me some strong antibiotics, and that seemed to help a lot.
It turned out my endodontist was someone I hung out with in Jr High. He was great at freezing so that I couldn't feel anything but wasn't also a drooling mess.
I am allergic to many antibiotics- they were like what CAN you take? So since I did not have a fever they did not prescribe.
I woke up in the middle of the night by nearly biting the tip of my tongue off. It was bleeding a little and ow it hurt and then I couldn't fall back asleep for quite a while and I am whining all over the interwebs because I just want a do-over of my sleep before dealing with today.
