Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Social media is exhausting these days. There's too much noise. If this wasn't the only real way I could keep up with family in Europe, I'd have been long gone from FB.

I get that there are different ways to approach an issue, but JFC when people are scared for their lives... well that isn't the time to talk about how your candidate--who never made it out of the primary--would have kicked the opposition's ass.

"Pardon me, but your white privilege is showing. You may want to pack that shit up and find the intersection between White Avenue and the rest of the world."

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It's like the best way to guess Trump's cabinet is to come up with the worst possible person to fill the post.

Ha! I mean, sob, but also ha.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch:

Ugh. Gwen Ifill. That makes me unreasonably sad.

Is that shit still going on?

I haven't been at my computer for the last hour or so. I had to go rescue my mother from the grocery store. @@

edit: Jesse, what's going on in regards to the march? I'm out of the loop on that drama, but I have friends who wanted to participate.

Punishingly Intricate

I can't really tell. I jumped to your comments directly. I don't know if adding anything now would be helpful or just more words thrown into the void.

I'm trying to limit my time on social media because it's making me so anxious right now. But I want to stay connected, especially now, to my loved ones far and wide.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I'm just happy I survived Mom's birthday celebration yesterday without getting into a political argument with anyone. Her actual birthday on Wednesday was already tainted by waking up to the election results.

At least the guy I've seen floated for ambassador to the UN seems to have qualifications?

lisah, don't feel like you have to jump in. They are not listening anyway.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I'm blocked on how to organize my books.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I'm just happy I survived Mom's birthday celebration yesterday without getting into a political argument with anyone.

My mom emailed my aunt, who's hosting Thanksgiving, to say that she hopes everyone will avoid talking about politics (this aunt and uncle are very conservative and when Obama was elected in 2008 there was a horrifying argument of the kind that happens when too much alcohol and barely repressed racism get mixed together, although the worst of it was from my cousins, not my aunt and uncle).

Apparently my aunt replied to my mom with "The kids all know if they bring up politics at all, I am kicking them out and locking the door." I hope that holds true. I mean, even if she disagrees with me politically, she doesn't want a repeat of Thanksgiving 2008. No one does.

I know there are teachers here and am wondering if I might do anything here. A friend of S's in school (actually his BFF) is a behavior issue in class. He is a 7YO black male in 1st grade. The way they are handling it seems cruel to me and it is not making the situation better. They punish him by excluding him from events when he misbehaves (there was a Fun Run recently and this child wasn't there - missed it due to behavior issues).

I don't want to sugar coast this - he does things like pull the teacher's hair. Is there anything at all I can do to try to lift this child up? Is it enough to try to set up play times with his parents? Is there anything I can do to advocate for him at school? I'm new to this school thing and I've thought so much of this boy post-election and what the next few years will bring for him and his family.
