Matilda came home from school with a letter and a form to attend an Evangelical Christian Camp (Young Life) given to her by one of her teachers, who was also recruiting two of her "worldly" friends.
Steam is coming out of my ears and I will be talking to the school, the school district and the ACLU tomorrow.
Fucking furious.
Wow
that's really wrong
Go get 'em!
My spouse is away until Thursday, so I'm rewatching the Lord of the Rings trilogy, or, as I think of it, "Aragorn Doing Lots of Cool Things in the Hottest Way Possible".
I've written to a school board member, and other parents who have kids on the soccer team. (The guy recruiting them is the Asst. Soccer Coach.)
Take 'em down, Hec. That is absolutely unacceptable.
Congratulations Amy on the new job! Time to write sounds like such a gift too.
So my high school student just had to write a paper for class and I am super impressed at the way they just sat down and wrote it, no stress, no fuss, and a pretty good essay too. I have to hand it to the 9th grade English teacher. He has assigned so many papers that they are finally getting down the basic skill of banging out a paper. It's like muscle memory, but for the brain.
I've contacted several parents now, and written to the school counselor who is the liaison.
If they don't act on this I will then go to the School District and then the ACLU.
This is a super sketch organization that specializes in getting "wordly" kids away at a camp and converting them, separating them from parental influence and using them to convert more kids.
They, of course, have also had issue with molestation.
They target popular student athletes so it's especially distressing that the main guy here is the Asst. Soccer Coach who will be the Head Soccer Coach next year.

Yikes, David! Yeah, that's a hard no, and teachers and coaches shouldn't be recruiting in school
Good news, West-Coasters! You don't have to wake up to a tsunami! Hooray!
Yikes, Hec! That is crazy. I'm confident you were not the only one enraged.
Congrats Amy!! So good to hear. And great to hear things are going well with your new job, Sumi. And a new position for Jess! 2018 looking sweeter.

Excellent plan!

That is good to hear. There is apparently no concern whatsoever for the need to be able to write in our schools here. Not exaggerating, the students here have no clue. They think a 3 page paper as a senior project is horrifically burdensome.
