Go, Gizmo (in the appropriate location)!
msbelle, I'm sorry about your friend. Fuck cancer indeed.
I could see taking money out of retirement for necessary house repairs, such as a hole in the roof or wiring problems. Stuff where leaving it be will quickly degrade the value of the house investment. It's all money in pots, and one of the pots you live in. If that pot gets a hole in it, it seems like it would be a good use of some from another pot to address that. More cosmetic changes, probably not so much, unless you're getting ready to sell and you figure they'll really help keep the price up.
I'm so sorry msbelle.
Working at the library so far has been excelkent. I can't believe how nice it is to go to work & not feel like it impossible to do anything right.
I am so glad to hear that sumi. I think working in the library as a summer student was one of my best jobs. (We did have 30 minute breaks and 1.5 hours for lunch, so it was quite leisurely.)
So sorry to hear that, msbelle.
Taking money out of my retirement account for house repairs is not entirely frivolous, right?
What Calli said -- definitely not if the repairs are necessary.
Jesse is me, except that my alarm woke me up early so I could come in for meetings.
Uggghhhh. A coworker just said to me, "Were you able to leave on time yesterday?" after I said I had had 7 hours of meetings. I was like, yeah, no. I was here from 8 to 6:30. Which isn't that bad, all things considered!

Sounds not at all frivolous. Taking money out for a trip to the casinos in Macau would be frivolous.

That's so great to hear!
I thought with my first paycheck of 2018 I would have a bit more of a buffer than I ended 2017 with, but no. I have to go pay some bills today that I got notices on and I think I'll be under 100 in the bank for a week. Not grown-upping so well.
My condolences msbelle.
Don't feel alone on the grown-upping thing. I still haven't bought new tires to replace my bald ones, even though I've known for months that I need to. (And Gizmo means that money has to come out of checking and/or regular savings rather than Christmas club. Oh well, I can't pet new tires...)
Oh well, I can't pet new tires...
I mean, you *can*.
It's just a little weird.
It takes special inanimate objects to inspire that kind of affection from me. Though the Galavant DVDs I just ordered might qualify...
