Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm having a holly jolly day -- brunch with a friend before flea/craft market shopping, where I mostly got a gift for myself, helped my mother put up lights, now resting before dinner with other friends and the Gay Men's Chorus concert.

Our neighbor across the street has had a dead deer hanging from a tree in their front yard since yesterday morning. Seeing as it's over 50 degrees outside, I hope they plan to do something with it before long.

Euw. The neighborhood dogs are going to go nuts.

Because books.

Why is it hanging from a tree?!

I dunno. Someone used a rope to hang it up there yesterday morning.

It's called bleeding, there should be a cut on it somewhere to let the blood finish draining.

edit: I was raised in hard core deerhunting territory. And it shouldn't be done in temperatures much above freezing. 50 is way too warm.

also done with game birds. One theory is you leave it hanging by the neck, and it's aged properly when the body detaches from the head and falls .

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I don't think that will work with a deer carcass.

I pretty much lost yesterday to headache/napping, but today I got serious about Christmas shopping. Found stuff for my dad, my favorite cousin, best friend, best friend's wife, and one of two pseudo-nephews. I'm down to needing to buy 2 presents (one of them an assortment of snack foods for work friends), plus cards and wrapping paper.

Didn't ever feel like going to see Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, but maybe Tuesday or Wednesday night.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

I'm trying to decide if I want to see that tonight or later in the week.

Jesse, I totally get it.

We're going to deal with Paris by mostly not dealing with it. We'll wear our hiking pants and down jackets around to museums, and then for dinner I will bring one nice wool dress and tights and low boots. That's not enough to be worth shipping home, really. That's the plan, anyway, but I haven't tried packing everything yet.

Sparky, good to know about the Turtl thing! And wow, Vienna, that sounds awesome!

We went for a long hike this morning in San Jose on a beautiful mountain, and I should be happy, but I'm kind of down. It's my birthday and we're not really celebrating it because my sister is (absolutely justifiably) depressed.

It's just been such a terrible year.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

It has not been a bad year for us overall, but we forgot Gotcha Day, and I don't know whether to say anything to mac about it or not. I am just generally horrible about dates.
